As Halloween approaches, Stage Right of Texas, the resident theater group of Conroe’s Crighton Theatre, presents the murder mystery “Clue.”

The show opens this Friday and continues weekends through Nov. 5 as the second show in Stage Right’s 15th season.

ON YOURCONROENEWS.COM: This Willis family wanted a ‘scary’ Halloween display. So they made it about their HOA.

Here’s what to know before going to the show:

About the show

The classic board game is brought to life in “Clue: On Stage!” Six guests are invited to a dinner party thrown by an anonymous host. They are given aliases — Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum and Miss Scarlet. Though discouraged from revealing personal information, it is soon discovered that all of them have fallen victim to the same blackmailer, their very host of the evening. Each is presented with a weapon and an option pay their extortionist double, or kill the innocent butler. What follows is a madcap, slapstick evening full of murder, mystery, and laughs as they seek to puzzle out the culprit amongst criminals.

Melody Montez, Executive Director of the Crighton Theatre, directs “Clue.”

Popularity of the show

When she was a girl, her stepfather was a Houston police officer. He worked an extra job at the Shamrock 6 movie theater on South Main in Houston. She would often get to tag online and watched all the movies.

“‘Clue’ was one of the movies that I fell in love with. I watched it over and over and over again,” she said. She said the interesting thing when it was in the theaters in 1985, you had to come back multiple times and see the whole movie to see Clue A, Clue B and Clue C for the various ending.

The acting also solidified her becoming an actress. Watching the movie has now become a tradition in her family.

This is the stage version of the 1985 movie “Clue.”

Montez said it’s become a cult classic.

“So many people love the game and the movie,” she said. “It’s exciting for me to do a show that people are excited about.”

“All of these actors are amazing. They are giving me the essence of the movie, but not dead on,” she said. “They are all excited and love ‘Clue’ just as much as I do.”

Crew members include Matthew Johnson as Stage Manager, Tammy Johnson on sound, Roger Ramirez on lights, Robben Montez programmer of the lights and John Barton has created the set that resembled the game board.

Without giving too much away about “who done it,” Montez said the ending is very funny and encourages theater patrons to come see how they wrap up this murder/mystery.
