A wildfire spanning 40 acres southeast of Cleveland in Liberty County has prompted evacuations in some areas and delayed bus routes.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Liberty County Precinct 6 Constable Zack Harkness posted on Facebook that the wildfire started along FM 1010 on County Road 325.

He said in a post the fire was threatening several structures and multiple agencies are on scene including Cleveland, Plum Grove, North Montgomery County and East Montgomery County fire departments.

As of 5 p.m., the fire was not contained, said Liberty County Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller.

“The wind keeps changing on us,” Hergemueller said, noting that two helicopters are dropping water on the fire. “We’re not as widespread as it was. The Texas (A&M) Forest Service is handling a lot of it and the fire departments are catching hot spots.”

No injuries have been reported and no homes have caught fire, he said.

“We’re just keeping an eye on the wind and making sure that it dies down and we’ll put it out,” Hergemueller said.

A few residents between Texas 105, FM 1010 and CR 325 have been evacuated, he said.

Due to the roads being shut down, majority of Cleveland ISD busses are being rerouted and delayed, according to a statement by the district.

Students will be returned to their campuses if they are unable to be delivered to their normal stops.

It’s still unclear what caused the fire.

Texas A&M Forest Service, the Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office and Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are on scene.

This is a developing story.Â
