Below is a roundup of Montgomery County high school football games from Week 9.
The Woodlands 62, Caney Creek 7
The Woodlands led by three touchdowns after the first quarter en route to a rout of Caney Creek at Moorhead Stadium.
The Highlanders, ranked No. 25 in the Class 6A state poll, improved to 7-0 in District 13-6A, 7-2 overall, to set up a monumental showdown against No. 16 Willis for first place next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Woodforest Bank Stadium. Willis, idle this week, is 6-0 in district, 8-0 overall.
The Woodlands has won seven straight games and is outscoring opponents 396-97 in district play.
The Highlanders led 35-0 at halftime against Caney Creek (3-5, 1-5 13-6A).
Aiden Self got things started with a 70-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown and a 17-yard touchdown run. Jackson Bolender added a 55-yard touchdown catch.
Quanell X Farrakhan Jr, scored twice in a five-minute span late in the second quarter on catches of 6 and 5 yards, respectively.
He also opened the second half with a 42-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 42-0 Highlander lead.
The Woodlands senior quarterback and Wisconsin commit Mabrey Mettauer threw for four touchdowns in the first half and did not play the second.
Timothy Palmer had the lone Panthers score on a 10-yard run in the third quarter.
Caney Creek lost its third straight game and plays Oak Ridge next Friday at Woodforest Bank Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Woodlands is 2-0 all-time versus Caney Creek.
Magnolia 27, Manvel 21
Magnolia survived a late flourish from Manvel to pull out a big win at Freedom Field.
The Bulldogs, who had already clinched a District 10-5A Division I playoff spot, are 6-1 in district play, 7-2 overall. Magnolia remains a game back of first-place Fulshear, which it lost to earlier this season.
Gavin Gonzales booted his second of two field goals – the final one from 43 yards with 2 minutes to play – to set the final score.
Tanner Whittington threw touchdown passes to Carson Smith and Hunter Martinez. Hunter Andrews had a short touchdown run in the first half.
The Bulldogs have won five straight since that loss to Fulshear on Sept. 9. Magnolia has allowed just 48 points over its last three games.
Magnolia plays Foster in its regular season home finale next Friday at 7 p.m.
Manvel fell to 3-3 in district, 4-4 overall.

Lake Creek 27, Huntsville 20
No. 2 state-ranked Lake Creek rallied dramatically from a 20-3 deficit to escape Huntsville at Montgomery ISD Stadium and stay in first place in District 10-5A Division II.
The Lions improved to 5-0 in district, 9-0 overall. Huntsville fell to 3-1 in district, 4-4 overall.
Lake Creek snapped Huntsville’s three-game win streak.
Huntsville led 20-3 with 9:42 left in the third quarter on Traeshawn Brown’s 20-yard run that capitalized on an interception, Huntsville’s third takeaway of the game.
But that would be the last of the scoring for the Hornets.
Lake Creek scored 24 unanswered points as star junior running back Ty Ty Byars, making his return to the field after missing the last two games because of injury, scored touchdown runs of 2, 26 and 51 yards, respectively, spanning the third and fourth quarters.
Byars finished with 183 yards on 36 carries. Elijah Naziruddin provided 91 yards on 14 attempts.
Overall, Lake Creek’s defense allowed just one offensive touchdown. Huntsville scored on a fumble return and a blocked kick to lead 14-3 at the half.
Alex Abbott drilled field goals of 40 and 31 yards, respectively, for Lake Creek.
Gerard Culotta had 12 tackles, including a sack. Davis Lee totaled two sacks and Benji Perez had one.
It was the regular season home finale for Lake Creek and the 18th straight regular season win. The Lions have not lost a regular season game since Nov. 5, 2021, against Montgomery.
Lake Creek is open next week before playing at Brenham Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in their regular season finale.
It is the second straight win over Huntsville for Lake Creek, which lost their first four meetings.
Oak Ridge 37, College Park 27
Oak Ridge scored four unanswered touchdowns from the second quarter into the third and that’s what was needed for a 37-27 District 13-6A win over College Park Friday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium.
Oak Ridge (5-2, 4-1) has won four straight since dropping its district opener over The Woodlands in Week 3. College Park (3-5, 3-3) has dropped three straight, but is clinging to fourth place in the league standings.
The Cavaliers stuck first on a 1-yard run by quarterback Kam Montgomery.
From there, Oak Ridge, which sits alone in third place, scored three straight times before the half.
Larry DeBose caught a 17-yard strike from quarterback Adam Trosclair.
Jack Emerson, Oak Ridge’s other quarterback, was a part of the final four touchdowns of the night.Â
He twice hit James Scott in the second quarter – from 34 and 35 yards, respectively. Emerson had a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a 15-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Markus Erstad mixed in a field goal for the War Eagles.
College Park backup quarterback Rodrigo Bravo had scoring throws of 72 yards to Conner Dunphy and 75 yards to Carter Deering in the fourth quarter.
Prior to that, Marco Beltran returned a kick 86 yards to the end zone.
Oak Ridge hosts Caney Creek this Friday at 7 p.m. College Park, meanwhile, is at New Caney.
New Caney 58, Cleveland 20
After scoring a season-low six points in a loss to Grand Oaks last week, New Caney responded Friday night with a season-high in points as the Eagles flew past Cleveland 58-20 in District 13-6A.
New Caney (4-4, 2-4) is tied with Conroe for fifth in the league standings.
New Caney led 42-0 at halftime, capped by consecutive interception returns for touchdowns.
Dravon Wilson had the first one and D’Andre Frazier followed just before the break.
Wilson had two touchdown receptions in the first half from 35 and 9 yards, respectively, from quarterback Hunter Taylor.
Kayden Cooper had a 50-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first half and caught a 64-yard reception from Taylor in the second half.
David Stewart and Grant Webb each had short scoring runs for New Caney.
The Eagles host College Park in a pivotal game this Friday at Randall Reed Stadium.
Conroe 35, Grand Oaks 6
Conroe snapped a four-game slide Thursday night in a 35-6 District 13-6A victory over Grand Oaks at Woodforest Bank Stadium.
The Tigers (4-4, 2-4) hadn’t won since the district opener over Caney Creek in Week 3.
Conroe scored 28 unanswered points, 21 of those coming in the second quarter.
Christian Nunley had two touchdown passes to Nigel Leday on the night and the first one of the evening was to Jalen Mayon. Nunley totaled 273 passing yards and 119 rushing yards.
Dramekco Green had touchdown runs of 57 and 26 yards, respectively. The junior totaled 174 yards on 12 carries.
Grand Oaks (2-7, 2-5) came in off its second win of the season when it edged New Caney last week. Zach Rollins connected with Roan Brawley for a 3-yard score for the lone Grizzly points of the night.
Next week, Conroe hosts last place Cleveland, 7 p.m. this Friday at Moorhead Stadium. Grand Oaks is on a bye before wrapping up the season Nov. 3 at Cleveland.
Magnolia West 33, Terry 7
After dropping two straight, Magnolia West got back on track on homecoming Friday night with a 33-7 win over Terry in District 10-5A Division I.
The Mustangs (5-3, 4-2) is tied for third with Angleton in the league standings. The two teams meet this Friday on the Wildcats’ home field.
Bryson Broadway threw touchdown passes to Brandon Taylor and a 45-yarder to Chase Lott.
Terry Daniels had a 15-yard touchdown run for the Mustangs while Brayden Smith hit two field goals (25 and 30 yards).
Parker Robinson recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Porter 42, Goose Creek Memorial 7
Porter is back on the upswing in District 8-5A Division I after a 42-7 win over Goose Creek Memorial Friday night at Randall Reed Stadium.
The Spartans (5-3, 4-2) are in fourth place and a half-game above Kingwood Park in the league standings. Porter has won three of its last four.
Porter had 285 rushing yards as a team. Payton Evans-Pickens and Aaron Gilliam each had one. Marion Lewis had a punt return for a touchdown.
Ryan Gilliam totaled 11 tackles while Joey Ingram had 10.
The Spartans travel to Baytown Lee for a key game this Friday at Stallworth Stadium.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville 35, Splendora 7
Splendora fell again in District 10-4A Division I, 35-7, at home against Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday night.
The Wildcats (1-6, 0-2) haven’t won since Week 1 against Cleveland.
The Wildcats hit the road to Livingston Friday at 7 p.m.
Trinity Valley 37, John Cooper 28
The Dragons dropped their second straight Southwest Preparatory Conference 3A contest, 37-28 at Trinity Valley Friday night.
Despite the loss, Dean Calhoun had another huge game running the ball for the Dragons (4-5, 4-2). The junior scored twice and totaled 177 yards on 30 carries.
Colton Rhoden and Cole Sheppard also hit the end zone.Â
The loss eliminated the Dragons from SPC title game contention. Cooper was the two-time defending state champion.
Covenant Christian 49, Faith West 0
The Cougars picked up their eighth straight win to start the season as they topped Faith West 49-0 in TAPPS District 5 Division II Thursday night.
Covenant (8-0, 3-0) has three shutouts on the season.
Quarterback Jackson Rudy threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another. He had 91 yards on the ground and 88 through the air.
Colby VanBruane had two touchdown receptions. Charlie Wade and Nate Eichenhorst had one apiece.
Keaton Campbell had a pick-six.
Covenant has a big one coming this Friday against also-unbeaten Pasadena First Baptist.
