The Woodlands 49, College Park 0

The Woodlands retained bragging rights in the War of the Woods with a 49-0 victory against rival College Park in a District 13-6A game at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

The Highlanders (6-2, 5-0) claimed their sixth consecutive victory. Their only losses this season came against undefeated state-ranked North Shore and Lamar teams.

Senior quarterback and Wisconsin commit Mabrey Mettauer threw for four touchdowns, two to Quanell X. Farrakhan Jr. Farrakhan also had a touchdown run in the first quarter.

Patrick Rebel caught a touchdown pass from Mettauer and threw one to Aden Self on a double-pass trick play in the second quarter.

Shane Walker also caught a touchdown pass. Jackson Bolender added a scoring run.

The Highlanders led 35-0 at halftime.

Kam Montgomery threw for 134 yards for the Cavaliers, but was picked off twice.

The Woodlands, No. 20 in the Chronicle’s Class 6A rankings, improved to 16-2 all-time against College Park (3-4, 3-2), which suffered its second straight loss.

The Highlanders will take on Caney Creek next week before meeting Willis for a game that could decide the district championship. College Park plays Oak Ridge next Friday.

Willis 63, Caney Creek 9

Willis’ offense looked unstoppable once again during a 63-9 victory against Caney Creek in a District 13-6A contest at Yates Stadium.

The No. 17 state-ranked Wildkats (8-0, 6-0) matched the best start in program history with the win. Willis also started 8-0 in 1962 before finishing that season 9-1.

The Wildkats entered the night averaging 58.1 points and 542 yards per game and continued that momentum in its 12th consecutive win over Caney Creek (3-4, 1-4).

DJ Lagway threw for 543 yards on 26-for-30 passing. He threw five touchdown passes to three different receivers.

Jermaine Bishop Jr. and Imauree Holmes each had two touchdown receptions. Bishop Jr. had 194 receiving yards while Holmes had 182. Jalen Mickens caught one touchdown pass.

Lagway also rushed in a touchdown, as did Jeremiah Thomas. Terri Lawrence III had two touchdown runs.

For Caney Creek, Jaiden Graves ran for 114 yards. Quarterback Christian Aguilar had a touchdown run.

Willis has a bye next week before taking on The Woodlands in the biggest game of its season. Caney Creek, meanwhile, will take on the Highlanders next Friday.

Magnolia 70, Kempner 13

Magnolia maintained its momentum in District 10-5A Division I action with a 70-13 victory against Kempner at Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs (6-2, 5-1) have won five consecutive games since dropping its district opener against No. 5 state-ranked Fulshear, which remains unbeaten.

Magnolia had each touchdowns from the ground game. Hunter Andrews led with 145 yards and three scores (one on a reception). Colin Leahey also had two rushing scores. Quarterback Tanner Whittington, Max Lejsek, Evan Bailey and Dakota Evetts each had one rushing score.

Whitington threw a touchdown pass and was 9-for-11 for 192 yards. Kolton Musgrove also threw a touchdown pass. Blake Holland had 55 receiving yards and a score.

Magnolia, No. 6 in the Chronicle’s Class 5A rankings, moved one step closer to a return to the playoffs. The Bulldogs are enjoying a bounce-back season after going 3-7 last year.

Magnolia will travel to play Manvel next Friday in its second-to-last game of the regular season. Kempner (0-7, 0-4) plays Fulshear next Saturday.

Lake Creek 38, Rudder 3

Lake Creek extended its regular season win streak to 18 games with a 38-3 rout of Rudder at Green Stadium.

Senior running back Elijah Naziruddin scored on touchdown runs of 1, 6 and 9 yards, respectively. Sam Lee had a 13-yard touchdown catch from Eli Morcos. Defensive lineman Jace Hersey had a 10-yard pick-6.

Lake Creek led 28-3 at halftime.

The Lions (8-0, 4-0), ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 5A-Division II,  has outscored opponents 425-150, an average of 34.3 points per game this season.

Lake Creek is 3-3 all-time versus Rudder.

Lake Creek hosts Huntsville at Montgomery ISD Stadium next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

La Porte 56, Porter 42

La Porte outlasted Porter 56-42 at Barbers Hill Eagle Stadium to snap Porter’s two-game winning streak and remain tied for second in District 8-5A Division I with Barbers Hill.

The game was tied 35-35 at halftime.

La Porte is 6-2 overall, 5-1 in district play. Porter, which entered the night alone in third in district, fell to 4-3, 3-2.

For Porter, quarterback Payton Evans-Pickens accounted for five touchdowns – three rushing, two passing. He had 172 yards on 23 rushes. He was 9-for-16 for 293 yards and two touchdowns. The Spartans also had touchdowns from Keanu Palmer, Aaron Gilliam and Mairon Lewis.

La Porte was coming off a loss to state-ranked Port Arthur Memorial and avenged last year’s meeting with Porter, which the Spartans won 35-14.

Oak Ridge 61, Cleveland 6

Oak Ridge put in points from all angles Thursday night as it hammered Cleveland for its fourth straight win, 61-6, at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

The War Eagles (5-2, 4-1) sit in third place in District 13-6A behind undefeated Willis and The Woodlands. 

Cleveland (0-7, 0-4) has dropped 13 straight games dating back to last season.

War Eagles running backs Larry DeBose and Frankie Arthur led the offense in the first half. DeBose caught touchdown passes of 38 and 37 yards from quarterback Jack Emerson. He also had a 63-yard sprint right before halftime. Arthur had touchdown runs of 8 and 3 yards in the first half. The UCF commit then busted a 64-yard run to the end zone early in the third quarter.

Emerson also connected with Gabe Camarillo on a 30-yard strike. 

For the second straight week, Georgia commit Justin Williams got in on the touchdown fun as he returned an interception 26 yards to the end zone in the second quarter.

Markus Erstad hit a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Off an Oak Ridge turnover, Cleveland scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Ruben Mendez.

The extra point, however, was blocked and Oak Ridge’s Jaxon Wiley returned it to the far end zone for two points.

Oak Ridge, now on a four-game win streak, is the road team, 7 p.m. next Friday against College Park at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

Grand Oaks 9, New Caney 6

Grand Oaks snapped a three-game slide and picked up its second District 13-6A road win of the season, 9-6, at New Caney Friday night.

Luke Waltz hit a 27-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to give the Grizzlies (2-6, 2-4) the win.

The Grizzlies struck on its opening drive as Brayden Dawson threw a  45-yard pass to Julien Kent.

New Caney (3-4, 1-4) tied the game at 6-all in the third quarter on a Kayden Cooper 57-yard catch from Hunter Taylor.

New Caney won last year’s meeting 44-0.

Grand Oaks hosts Conroe this Thursday, 7 p.m. at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

New Caney, meanwhile, travels to Cleveland Friday night.

Randle 56, Montgomery 28

It was a better night on offense for the Bears, but they remain winless on the year after a 56-28 District 10-5A Division II loss Friday night at home.

The Bears (0-8, 0-4) came in off a 14-point night against Brenham last week.

Quarterback Reggie Williams threw for a score and rushed in another.

Running back Damian Taylor caught a touchdown pass and totaled 74 receiving yards. Nick Shivers also caught a touchdown pass.

Montgomery is off next week and returns to action Oct. 26 at Traylor Stadium against Lamar Consolidated.

Huffman-Hargrave 51, Splendora 22

Splendora dropped its sixth straight game and second overall in District 10-4A Division I on Friday night, 51-22, to Huffman-Hargrave.

Dominic Rodriguez had a productive night for the Wildcats (1-6, 0-2) with 134 yards rushing.

Quarterback Robert Lubbers scored two times rushing the ball while Nick Sheridan had one rushing touchdown.

Splendora hosts Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday night.

Houston Christian 28, John Cooper 14

John Cooper lost for the first time in Southwest Preparatory Conference 4A for the first time since 2019 after a 28-14 home loss Friday to Houston Christian.

Dean Calhoun (103 yards on the night) and Cole Sheppard each ran in touchdowns for the Dragons (4-4, 4-1).

Cooper wraps up the regular season this Friday at Trinity Valley.

Covenant Christian 86, Westbury Christian 38

Covenant Christian was relentless Friday night in an 86-38 TAPPS 6-man Division II District 5 win over Westbury Christian.

Quarterback Jackson Rudy put up video game numbers as he rushed in seven scores and totaled 288 on the ground. He was 14-for-20 throwing for 258 yards and four touchdowns.

Charlie Wade, Keaton Campbell, Nate Eichenhorst and Sean Matthews each had one touchdown reception for the Cougars (7-0, 2-0). Eichenhorst led in yardage with 119 on three catches.

Covenant Christian travels to Faith West Academy this Thursday at 7 p.m.
