College Park 70, Cleveland 10
College Park shattered the single-game school record in points scored on homecoming night Friday as The Cavaliers rolled to a 70-10 District 13-6A win over the Indians.
The Cavaliers previous high was 56 points in a game against New Caney in 2009.
Quarterback Kam Montgomery threw six touchdown passes for College Park (2-2, 2-0). He was 7-for-8 for 241 yards.
Cole Snodgrass and Conner Dunphy each had two touchdown receptions while Jordan Styles, Carter Deering and Jevonis Young each had one.Â
Backup quarterback Rodrigo Bravo threw for 92 yards and a score.
Eugene Burnett, Jayden Ogoli and Brayden Lee-Denton each had one rushing score.
College Park is on a bye before it travels to Buddy Moorhead Stadium Sept. 29 to play Caney Creek.
Magnolia West 58, Kempner 0
The No. 8 Mustangs had no trouble in their District 10-5A Division I opener, rolling at Mercer Stadium to improve to 2-1 overall.
Magnolia West earned its second straight rout of a Fort Bend ISD opponent, downing Bush 49-6 in Week 2. The Mustangs defeated Kempner 51-3 last year.
Quarterback Bryson Broadway connected with Brandon Taylor, Chase Lott and Parker Robinson for touchdowns. Broadway was 12-for-22 for 179 yards.
Sam Gomez, John Sigler and Carson Dunaway each had rushing scores for the Mustangs.
Magnolia West hosts the Manvel Mavericks on Friday.
Magnolia 42, Terry 7
Magnolia returned to the win column Friday with a 42-7 District 10-5A Division I win over Terry.
Colin Leahey rushed for 155 and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1). Hunter Andrews and Evan Bailey both had one touchdown.Â
Tanner Whittington connected with Andrews on a touchdown pass. Whhitington scattered 183 yards to eight different receivers.
Kyle Henry also scored on a blocked kick.
Magnolia travels to Angleton at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Grand Oaks 13, Caney Creek 7
New Grand Oaks head coach Shaun McDowell secured his first win since taking over as the Grizzlies spoiled Caney Creek’s homecoming with a 13-7 District 13-6A win Friday at Buddy Moorhead Stadium.
Devon Wallace had a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Grizzlies (1-3, 1-1). Shep Jenks made field goals of 32 yards (second quarter) and a 28-yarder on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Caney Creek (2-2, 0-2) led 7-0 in the first quarter after a 65-yard kick return set up a Jaiden Graves rushing score. Graves had 94 yards rushing on offense and seven tackles on defense with a forced fumble and recovery.
Grand Oaks hosts Willis 7 p.m. Friday at Woodforest Bank Stadium. Caney Creek looks to get back on track Friday at Cleveland.
Argyle 62, Montgomery 0
Montgomery closed out non-district play with a 62-0 loss to Argyle Friday night.
Reggie Williams threw for 107 yards in the loss for the Bears (0-4). Jake Wilson caught four passes for 45 yards and accumulated 95 kick return yards.
Blake Wedgman had 32 yards on nine carries.
Montgomery begins District 10-5A Division II Friday at Huntsville.
Covenant Christian 56, Logos Prep 8
Covenant Christian earned a 56-8 win over Logos Prep in non-district TAPPS 6-man football Friday night.
Jackson Rudy threw for four touchdown passes and rushed for three more for the Cougars (4-0).
Rudy was 12-for-14 for 182 yards and rushed for 68.
Keaton Campbell, Colby VanBruane, Nate Eichenhorst and Charlie Wade each had one receiving touchdown. Eichenhorst led with 78 yards.
Covenant hosts Mount Carmel Academy this Friday.
Port Arthur Memorial 45, Porter 28
Porter dropped its first District 8-5A Division I game of the season, 45-28, at Randall Reed Stadium Friday night.
Payton Evans-Pickens, Landon Binford and Mairon Lewis each had a rushing score. Lewis totaled 101 yards while Evans-Pickens rushed for 83.
Anthony Portonova had a pick-six. Ryan Gilliam led in tackles with seven.
Porter (2-2, 1-1) travels to Baytown Sterling Thursday night.
The Woodlands 49, New Caney 42
The Highlanders remain unbeaten in district action after winning a shootout 49-42 over the defending district champion Eagles at Woodforest Bank Stadium Thursday night.
The Woodlands improved to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in district play after starting the season 0-2 with double-digit losses against North Shore and Lamar. New Caney fell to 2-2 overall, 0-2 in district under first-year coach Mike DeWitt. It was unable to avenge last year’s 14-7 loss.
The Woodlands scored five touchdowns in five first-half drives with five different scorers to lead 35-21 at the half.
Aden Self started the scoring on a 13-yard rush, Mabrey Mettauer’s quarterback draw from 18 yards out on third-and-long doubled the lead, sophomore Parker Stewart made it 21-7 after returning a kickoff for a 76-yard touchdown, Quanell X Farrakhan Jr. extended the lead back to 14 points with a 1-yard run and Mettauer and Jackson Bolender connected on a 25-yard touchdown on third-and-long to make it 35-21.
But the Eagles refused to go away as Hunter Taylor connected with Kayden Cooper on a 6-yard touchdown pass off a tipped ball, David Stewart scored on a 33-yard rush and Taylor scored on a quarterback draw from 25 yards out to get them within 28-21.
The Eagles cut the Highlanders’ lead to 35-28 to begin the second half after Taylor went untouched on a 9-yard touchdown via the quarterback draw once again for the lone score of the third quarter.
Taylor found Dravon Wilson for a 33-yard score on second-and-long to start the fourth quarter to tie the game at 35. Bolender soon rushed it in from 3 yards out to give the Highlanders a 42-35 lead before Cooper returned the ensuing kickoff 100-plus yards for his second score to tie the game at 42.
Bolender wasn’t done yet, however. He scored the game-winning touchdown on a 13-yard run for his third score of the game to make it 49-42 with 10 seconds left. The Highlanders then recovered the ensuing kickoff for the win.
District play continues for both teams as The Woodlands travels to Conroe and Buddy Moorhead Stadium at 7 p.m. New Caney hosts Oak Ridge Friday at 7 p.m.
Lake Creek 73, Bellaire 7
The Lions crushed Bellaire 73-7 Thursday in non-district play at Butler Stadium for their fourth double-digit victory of the season.
Lake Creek, ranked No. 3 in the Chronicle’s Class 5A poll, is off to a 4-0 start to a season for the third consecutive time. The Lions won last year’s meeting, 71-0, for their largest margin of victory that season.
Sam Lee had a remarkable night in special teams with three return touchdowns. He returned two punts to the house and totaled 134 yards on three attempts. He then returned a 75-yard kick return to the end zone.
Ty Ty Byards had three touchdowns and 85 yards on five touches. Elijah Naziruddin had two rushing scores and 79 yards on three attempts.
Eli Morcos threw touchdown passes to Brock Miller and Ayden Leitz.
On defense, Leighton Scott had an interception and Gerard Culotta had a sack as a part of eight tackles.
Alex Abbott was 10-for-10 on point-after attempts and hit a 27-yard field goal.
Lake Creek hosts Randle in the District 10-5A opener at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.
