With Thanksgiving roughly six weeks away, Montgomery County area bakeries are now taking pie orders for the holiday. 

Here’s what to know about what local bakeries have to offer for Thanksgiving and how to get an order in soon to top off the holiday meal Nov. 28:

Pie in the Sky 

Conroe’s Pie in the Sky bakery and restaurant is now taking Thanksgiving pie orders through Nov. 21. Orders may be placed on the bakery’s website and by calling 936-760-3301. Pies may also be shipped. 

Holiday pie offerings include peach streusel, apple streusel, cherry streusel, buttermilk, buttermilk vanilla pecan, Southern pecan, Bumbleberry, strawberry rhubarb, vanishing blueberry, chocolate cream, chocolate truffle, Mississippi mud, banana cream, lemon icebox, key lime, lemon meringue, chocolate meringue, coconut meringue and pumpkin. 

Pie in the Sky represents the dream of singer and baker Marlene Stubler. She started her pie-making business out of her parents’ convenience store in the 1990s in Conroe. In 2005, she opened the first Pie in the Sky store front at 3600 North Loop 336 West in Conroe and in addition to pies, it’s also a popular breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. 

House of Pies 

House of Pies, a family-owned and operated restaurant and bakery chain, has been a Houston landmark since 1967. There are now six locations across Houston including restaurants in The Woodlands, Cypress and Katy.

A statement from the House of Pies company assures the locations “will have plenty of pies through Thanksgiving.”

Do note that all pies and cakes are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Starting Nov. 18, it is not necessary to make a pre-order for pies unless it is from 20 or more pies and cakes, and they would need a five-day notice on all orders. See their options for ordering online. 

The statement said their most popular pies during the Thanksgiving season are pecan, apple and pumpkin but they sell over 40 different pies and cakes. 

The Woodlands location is at 1330 Lake Woodlands Drive. 

Montgomery Bakehouse 

The bakery at 240 Longmire Road in Conroe is owned by the Schenk family and uses Schenk family recipes dating back to the 1930s. Known for their King Cakes at Mardi Gras and holiday pies, they also have several fall menu items including the caramel apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake by the slice, apple strudel, apple caramel cake by the slice and chocolate flavored George Washington cake, a Schenk family favorite. 

Orders for Thanksgiving may be placed now online for pickup prior to the holiday. Orders may be placed up until a few days before the holiday. See their pie page online for all the flavors. Among the unique holiday offerings are caramel apple, Boston creme and two peanut butter flavors.

Vernele’s Bakery 

The Vernele’s motto is “Life is too short to skip dessert.” Linda Vernele Ezernack comes from a family of bakers and many of the recipes are ones she grew up on. The bakery is known for its custom wedding cakes, but also has holiday pies.

Goode Co. Restaurants 

Goode Co. restaurants in the Houston area can provide a full Thanksgiving meal or sides and desserts as needed a la carte. A turkey dinner with the traditional sides is available. The featured dessert is Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie. 

Pre-order must be placed by Nov. 21 for pick up Nov. 26-27. Pick up is available at the Kirby Drive location in Houston, the Katy location, the Northwest Freeway location in Houston and Good Co. Fish Camp in Shenandoah at 8865 Six Pines Drive, Suite 100. 

Pick up times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., look for the drive-through pickup line at each location.
