MCN's 'Veteran of The Week' - Steven Hummer

This week’s Veteran is Steven Hummer, who served in the U.S. Marines from 1977-2015. Hummer is a retired Lieutenant General, and one of the highest rank Veterans in the Houston Region. General Hummer actually enlisted in the Marines 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1973. He enrolled in college graduating in 1977, and received a commission upon graduating. Hummer held many positions over his 41 years of service to Our Nation. As a company grade officer, his assignments included Rifle Platoon Commander, Battalion Training Officer, Battalion Operations Officer and Company Commander. As a field grade officer, his assignments included Officer-In-Charge, 1st Marines Regimental Enhanced Training Section, 1st MARDIV; Operations Officer, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), III MEF; Officer-In-Charge, Special Operations Training Group, III MEF; Assistant Future Plans Officer, 1st MARDIV; Commanding Officer, Battalion Landing Team 1/1 under 13th MEU (SOC) and 15th MEU (SOC); and Commanding Officer, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV, and Director of Operations (J-3) for US Forces – Iraq, during combat operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The General was stationed everywhere a Marine could be sent, and held many different commands, over his long and distinguished career. Hummer has been to numerous military schools including the Command and Staff College, and has a Master’s Degree in International Security from the Air War College. He served as Commander, United States Marine Corps Forces Reserve and Marine Forces Northern Command, and the Deputy to the Commander for Military Operations for United States Africa Command, or AFRICOM, just before he retired. Hummer is a mentor to Veterans who are in the Montgomery County jail, as well as Chaplain to the District Attorney. He is a member of the Lone Star Honor Flight Veterans Group, and serves The Lord in many respects in The Community. Good Luck General Hummer, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
