This week’s Veteran is Matthew Setchell, who served in the U.S. Marines Corps from 2009–2016. Matthew’s job was an Assault Vehicle Mechanic, which is important, because you have to have vehicles in top condition to be able meet the tough conditions that training and the combat zone demand. Matthew graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2005, and did his basic training in an honor platoon at Camp Pendleton, California, making him a West Coast Marine. Setchell was stationed with the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion, Bravo Company, Maintenance Platoon. He completed a machine gunners course, and trained hard. He was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, in the same job, and same division, since the 2nd Marine Division maintains battalions on both the east and west coasts. Setchell was in pre-deployment training at 29 Palms in the Californian desert, which is a very realistic training area in simulating combat conditions. Over the decades, many dozens of Marines and Soldiers have been killed during training exercises. Since leaving the service Matthew has worked as a part-time commercial driver, and private security for General Motors. Good Luck Matthew, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
