MCN's 'Veteran of The Week' - John K Cortez

This week’s Veteran is John K Cortez, 94, who served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1949, and the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1954. Cortez was 15 when he entered the Army. He trained at Fort Polk, Louisiana for Basic and Advanced Training as a Medic Administration Specialist. After he completed training, he was posted to Japan as part of the occupation forces setting up Combat Support Hospitals in Osaka for one year. He then spent the rest of his Army service at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. He received a B.A. Business degree from San Antonio College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 – 1954, where he was a Medical Technician. After his military service, Cortez, spent his career as a car salesman, owning his own car lot. Cortez had 14 children, and proudly admits he has been sober for 63 years, as of May 22nd. Good Luck John, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
