MCN's 'Veteran of The Week' - Dick Reitz

This week’s Veteran is Richard Rekeita, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-1971. Rekeita was a Field Radio Operator, which is an important job since communication between units especially in a combat zone is very important to stay informed and on mission. Rick was sent to Vietnam from 1970-1971, and was posted to Marble Mountain, a Marine Base and Air Facility, near Da Nang, and the famed China Beach. The area, even though the war was drawing down, was still vulnerable to enemy activity, and was subject to danger at all times with several close calls. After his Marine Corp service Rekeita joined the Houston Police Department, and eventually became a detective. His career spanned four decades, only having had the need to shoot one guy. Don’t worry, he only hit him in the leg. Good Luck Richard, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
