MCN's 'Veteran of The Week' - Bill Eustes

This week’s Veteran is Bill Eustes, who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1953 as an enlisted aircraft and engine mechanic. He then got the Call to Serve The Lord, and entered college to become a Methodist Minister. Eustes was commissioned as an officer Chaplain in 1965-1991 with the U.S. Air Force. His first duty station was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, then he was sent to Ubon, Thailand, during the Vietnam Conflict. Eustes was also stationed at Pope Air Force Base, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Eielson AFB in Alaska, near Fairbanks; England AFB in Louisiana. When Bill was sent to Izmir AFB, Turkey, in the early 1980’s, when he passed nearby a Pan Am office one time, it exploded a few minutes later after he walked passed. In fact, his car at the time almost caught on fire. While in Turkey, Eustes guided airmen on tours of Christian sites, and he gave a sunrise service at the Ephesus Ancient Greek Theater there. He also visited all seven sites of the churches in the Book of Revelation. Even though Bill was a chaplain, he was sent to the Air War College, where he learned about logistical systems, amongst other things. He said he was glad to graduate from the course. Eustes was also stationed at Columbus AFB in Mississippi; Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, and Rhein Main AFB in Frankfurt, West Germany, from 1986-1989. His last duty station was Carswell AFB near Fort Worth. During his career, Eustes flew in many different planes, but enjoyed being on the ground. He is a proud member of Lone Star Honor Flight Veterans Group, and is a proud WiseCrack Warrior. Good Luck Bill, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
