After 16 years, Magnolia’s Lone Star Animal Hospital is undergoing its first major expansion to accommodate growth in the area.

The hospital off FM 1488 provides services such as routine preventative care, vaccines, dental, medical and surgery. The hospital has been open since 2008, according to its website.

To accommodate space for more clients, the hospital is expanding its parking lot, play yards, boarding and grooming areas, and adding more exam rooms and relocating interior offices, said Dezon Boulanger, office manager of the hospital.

“(FM) 1488 is expanding like crazy, going into Magnolia and out towards Montgomery as well,” Boulanger said. “We’re one of the few, still privately-owned veterinary practices in the area. Most (others) have gone corporate. And we really have catered to our clients with what we’ve been able to do, limited on space…so just being able to accommodate and take care of our clients a little better, we wanted to do the expansion.”

The hospital’s expansion work is underway and is expected to be done in October, she said.

The expansion comes as both the Magnolia and Montgomery areas have seen extensive growth. By 2039, Magnolia could grow 600 percent, with a population of 53,000. In Montgomery, one of the latest development projects, the Skye Ranch community is expected to have approximately 4,000 single-family homes.

“I think our area in general is a growing area,” Boulanger said.

The hardest part of the expansion is over, Boulanger said, noting the parking lot expansion. The interior of the building is now being focused on, to add the exam rooms and relocate offices, she said.

Prior to the expansion, the building had minor interior changes, she said.

Dr. Kathy Martin, the sole veterinarian for the hospital, described it as a hospital “that treats your pets like family, from birth to their senior years.”Â
