Magnolia ISD will have new elementary school boundaries for the 2024-25 school year after officials approved recent changes in response to the opening of Audubon Elementary School.

Since September, officials have received feedback from parents to determine how to handle new student enrollment for Audubon Elementary, which was part of the district’s $228 million bond package passed in November 2022.

Audubon Elementary School is expected to open its doors in August and the Audubon subdivision is projected to bring a total of 6,140 home sites, according to a map provided by the district. The last time the district changed its boundaries was in 2005 with the opening of Ellisor Elementary.

District officials approved the boundary changes during a meeting in December, and the changes will go into effect starting in August, according to a release from the district.

The map of the new boundaries was shown to the public during a meeting in October. Most of the changes will affect students that are enrolled in Magnolia Parkway and Magnolia Elementary schools due to the opening of Audubon Elementary School, officials said previously.

The new elementary school is projected to open with more than 500 students, according to data provided by the district.

The district will be opening up a transfer process in the spring for students who want to stay at the elementary school where they are currently enrolled. Parents will have to provide transportation for the student, officials said.

Out of the more than 1,500 parents who commented on the district’s survey, 11 percent had said they would apply for a transfer so that their child can finish their final year at their elementary school, according to information provided by the district.

Other changes to the elementary boundaries include changes to the Williams Elementary School boundary, which will avoid buses having to cross the railroad tracks around FM 1488 and FM 1774, officials said. Due to the changes, some students in Magnolia Elementary School are expected to move to Williams Elementary School and vice versa.

Some students at Nichols Sawmill Elementary and Ellisor Elementary are expected to be zoned to different elementary schools for balancing.

“We have 5,600 elementary kids,” said Magnolia ISD spokesperson Denise Meyers, in a previous report. “In a perfect world…you’re talking 622 kids at each elementary (school).”

The district is expected to go through the same process next year for the new intermediate and junior high schools anticipated to open for the 2025-26 school year.
