A 24,000-square-foot expansion almost a year in the works at the Lone Star Family Health Center Conroe branch is nearing completion.Â
The expansion will add to the current building at 605 S. Conroe Medical Drive and is expected to open later this year or in early 2025.Â
The addition will result in an additional clinical pod for the center and allow service for 3,000 more patients.Â

“The expansion features approximately 24,000 square feet of additional space including medical exam rooms, a dedicated mental health suite, an expanded patient intake area and more,” said Courtney Galle, marketing and communications manager for the center. “We have services that need to be expanded. Growth is a good thing and it also tells of the need out there for our underserved communities. We see a lot of growth in our future and more services needed in our area.”Â
Founded in 2002, Lone Star Family Health Center is a full-service federally qualified health center and nonprofit. The health center’s mission is to provide compassionate, affordable healthcare and prepare tomorrow’s family medicine professionals. The center provides medical, dental, women’s health and mental-health services.Â
Primary care services are offered across five clinic locations in Conroe, Willis, Spring, Grangerland and Huntsville.Â
The current Conroe center opened in June 2012 at 70,000 square feet near the HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe hospital on the city’s south side.Â
During the pandemic, the center coordinated testing sites and the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Conroe area.Â
The second floor has been renovated, the pharmacy will be expanded adding a retail arm of the pharmacy and a dedicated mental health suite will be a part of the new space. The second floor houses office space and serves as a hub for central business operations for the outlying clinics.Â
Currently, mental-health services are combined with a medical pod.Â

The flow at the front of the building will change as well.Â
The main entrance will be through the expansion bringing one main intake area. A secondary entrance will remain as well. More than 70 new parking spaces are also being added around the center.Â
“The health center will flow a little better. We have a beautiful facility now, but with the expansion it will add to the flow and logistics,” she said.Â
Center officials are also planning to expand services and add staff in 2025.Â
“We have a lot to offer people and we’re here for everybody. You don’t have to be a resident of Montgomery County. We’re here for anybody who needs it,” she said. “We really have a lot to offer to the community.”Â
