The date of Wednesday, July 12, was a special day at Conroe Noon Lions Club as we remembered a legendary Lion and welcomed a local community leader with a generous and youthful heart.

The Club watched a video clip showing the late Mr. Buckalew sharing about how he became a Lion and when he joined the Conroe Noon Club. The club members stood out of respect for his words as the images played across the screen.

Our President Jason Miller had some impactful words to share with the Club as he began his term. He spoke about his experiences at the International Convention in Boston and shared about what makes Lions unique is that they choose to serve. He emphasized this powerful truth with the statement “they don’t have to, they get to” serve. Jason also highlighted the success of the Lions Club International Foundation and their Campaign 100 program in raising $68 million!

Speaking of service, we recognized some of our incredible servant leaders who led their committees. Receiving honors were James, Kim, Connie, Sandy, Sarah, Bobby, Aaron, Debbie, Rick and Winter, a special thanks for all you did.

Our speaker gave us hope for the future and shed an important light on the needs of the community. Baily Cowart, 11-years old, already has nearly 7 years of giving back to local schools through a project that turned into a nonprofit. Her nonprofit, B.E. Blessed provides school supplies, reusable water bottles, hygiene kits and shoes for CISD students attending Title I schools.

After discovering the need that students had when she was only 5-years old Baily Elizabeth Cowart stepped into action with the support of her parents, family, and friends. The community responded enthusiastically with donations and in 2019 B.E. Blessed became an official nonprofit. Baily shared how as many as 80 volunteers have come out at a time to help pack the backpacks with school supplies. We watched a video of her appearance on Good Morning America, an event that created significant donations from outside of Texas.

On top of the donations to local schools Baily’s organization has also created a significant scholarship opportunity for their volunteers to apply for by writing an essay about Community Service. When asked about her future plans Baily shared that she would like to be a 1st Grade Teacher and have her own restaurant! What an amazing community leader and example to others of any age!
