Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club met recently at Walden Yacht Club. The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dot Anderson who then led us in the Pledge to the United States Flag and then the Pledge to the Texas Flag. 

She then introduced our Guest Speaker, Brandie Bass, with Behavioral Health and Suicide Prevention (BHSP).  

Brandie began by stating that on May 16, 2019, Judge Wayne Mack organized a Call-to-Action Committee at Lonestar Convention Center to address suicide prevention in our area and over 400 people came to the event to answer the call.  Involvement in this program requires a personal commitment and, indeed, many in the organization have family members who have either committed suicide or have had thoughts of suicide because of suffering from depression. 

Brandie went on to say that her teenage son had these thoughts in the past but that she was able to get him the mental help that he needed and now he is doing great. After our program, Bill Hogan, our Vision Chair, reported that we had our First Vision Screening Day with 8 LCCLC volunteers conducting 30 screenings with 5 referrals for further evaluation!  An awesome start! 

Then Jan Jessen, our fundraising Chair,  mentioned our First Annual Lions Crusin’ 2023 Car Show that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at Walden Yacht Club.  (Cars need to arrive between 8:00 am and 10:00 am.)  This will be fun for the whole family!  There will be music, a prize drawing table,  50/50 drawings.  Food & drinks will be available from the Breakwater Grill.  This event is free and open to the public.  (Car registration is $30 at the gate.)
