Jamestown Rediscovered was the Robert Woodson Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century subject for the February-Valentine chapter meeting. Excavations at Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the New World, have been going on for 140 years. In 1994 Preservation Virginia which acquired 22.5 acres on Jamestown Island in 1893, launched a project called Jamestown Rediscovery. Archaeologists, scientists, curators and volunteers have been uncovering artifacts since then. Today, Historic Jamestowne is a public/private partnership with the National Park Service. Member Coyla Holmes presented a fascinating program which included stories from several CDXVIIC members who have Jamestown ancestors.
Valentines were given to the Carriage Inn for their resident veterans. The meeting included a welcome ceremony for new member Laura Womack, a memorial service for longtime member Eugenia Letbetter, and election of 2025-2027 chapter officers. CDXVIIC is a lineage society for women 18 years and older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America.
