Here are are June activities happening in Conroe.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday for banks and many businesses to commemorate Emancipation Day and the day Texas ended slavery in 1865 when troops arrived in Galveston Bay and announced that enslaved African Americans were finally free! It is the oldest known holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. Join Children’s Books on Wheels in the Tamina Community as they serve up a Fish Fry with all the fixings from 11:00am-4:00pm ($25/plate) accompanied by the Tamina Historic Freedman’s Town Photo Collage, “The Ground On Which I Stand”. The funds from the Fish Fry benefit mobile literacy for children throughout the county.
What happens when two glamorous divorcees accidentally book adjoining honeymoon suites with their new spouses? Noël Coward’s comedy Private Lives is full of biting wit, confrontations, and a lot of lunacy premiering Friday, June 20 through Sunday, July 6 at the Owen Theatre with The Players Theatre Company. Reserve tickets at www.playerstheatrecompany.com.
Also on June 19th, The Conroe Art League will offer a class combining nature with different mediums in Creative Canopy- “Where Ideas Bloom Beneath the Trees”. Participants will engage their senses, embrace imperfection, and use diverse materials to express themselves freely. Unlike traditional technique-based courses, this class serves as a space to replenish the inner well from which creativity flows–an ideal retreat for overcoming creative blocks or simply renewing one’s energy. It’s a space where curiosity leads the way, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced artists looking to reconnect with their creativity. 10:00am-noon at 55 Lake Forest Circle in Conroe. To register, contact Jennifer Claussen at 713-412-7686 or jlclaussen@gmail.com
Walk around downtown any evening and you can find live music! The Red Brick Tavern, The Corner Pub, Pacific Yard House, The Table at Madeley, or Guadalaharry’s. If you go in one venue and you don’t hear music, ask who is playing downtown that night. All the merchants are friendly and want you to continue browsing their stores and restaurants. There is always something interesting and people to know in Downtown Conroe! It is the Cheers of Montgomery County!
Until next week!
