Heartbreak Along the Guadalupe: Remembering the Victims of the July 4th Flooding

Flooding along the Guadalupe River is sadly not uncommon, but when tragedy strikes with such devastating loss, it leaves an indelible mark on our hearts and communities.

On July 4, 2025, a catastrophic flash flood swept through Camp Mystic and surrounding communities near Kerrville, Texas, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of more than 80 lives. Families and friends are still grappling with the enormity of the disaster, with many individuals still unaccounted for.

This tragedy echoes painful memories from July 1987, when a flash flood in Comfort, Texas, claimed the lives of 10 children attending a church camp. That day, swift waters overtook buses as campers tried desperately to evacuate. Now, nearly four decades later, another community has been devastated by nature’s force.

Among those affected in the 2025 flooding are families with deep ties to the Montgomery, Texas area. Some have reported the loss of loved ones, while others continue to await news of those still missing. The grief stretches far beyond the Hill Country—it is felt deeply in our own hometowns.

There is hope that improved river height warning systems and enhanced safety measures will emerge from this tragedy. But today, we mourn. We remember. And we pray.

We ask that you join us in lifting up the victims, survivors, and their families in heartfelt prayer during this time of unimaginable sorrow.
