A passerby rescued a child from a sinking car after a crash sent it into a pond in Montgomery County.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A child was rescued from a sinking vehicle Monday evening after a two-car accident sent one car into a pond along the Grand Parkway in Montgomery County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on State Highway 99 at Valley Ranch Parkway when a woman ran a red light on the feeder road and was struck by a pickup truck, DPS said. The impact sent her vehicle into a nearby pond, where it sank immediately.
Three adults and one child were in the vehicle when it went into the water. While the adults were able to escape, the child remained buckled inside the submerged car, DPS said.
A man from Ohio who was passing by stopped his vehicle and jumped into the pond to help. He was able to unbuckle the child and bring them to safety.
The accident involved two vehicles and affected three frontage road lanes on Grand Parkway North at Valley Ranch Parkway, according to Houston TranStar.
No information was immediately available about the conditions of those involved in the accident or whether any charges would be filed.
