What if your next big idea just needed the right spark to take off?
That’s a question that inspired The Office at the Garage Project: a space built for starting something new.
As more people step away from traditional offices, this coworking space offers a fresh option for anyone building a business, launching a side hustle or chasing a big idea.
“[We wanted] to open [this space] up to small-business owners, freelancers and entrepreneurs—people who need to get out of their house and get work done in a professional environment,” community manager Joy Lewis said.
The Office at GP offers different membership options to fit individual needs, including private offices, semi-private desks, shared coworking areas and even day passes. All memberships come with benefits, such as:
- Free parking
- Free printing
- Meeting room access
- Unlimited coffee
- Snacks
Who’s already launching big ideas here?
It’s been less than six months since opening, and The Office at GP is already fueling the growth of entrepreneurs across industries.
A behavioral therapist who primarily sees clients in-home now has a quiet space for admin and planning.
A construction business owner who started in a garage unit has expanded into a private office.
A fitness trainer, apparel designer and content creator now meets clients and produces brand content in a space that reflects the identity he’s building.
“We want to be a resource, a place of collaboration and a launching point as well,” Lewis said. “A lot of businesses … will be born in this space. That’s what it’s for—creative exploration and collaboration.”
What makes this more than just a coworking space?
The people, the culture and the intentionality set this space apart from its competitors. Lewis leads with warmth and purpose, drawing from her own entrepreneurial journey and background in journalism, marketing and operations.
“It’s about getting to know the people behind the business, [because] people connect with people, not businesses,” Lewis said. “Here, we encourage community members to get to know one another.”
One of the ways community members interact is through events put on by The Office at GP, which are open to the public.
“[At our most recent event], when people got here, they fostered a sense of community amongst each other, and it wasn’t something that I forced,” Lewis said. “They got together on their own, and they started talking. [Conversation] naturally segued into, ‘What are you seeing in your business?’ and ‘Here’s what I’m seeing in mine.’ That’s how I want to build a sense of community here.”
What’s next?
The Office at GP has a growing list of partnerships. One is with a local coffee roaster, who supplies the coffee machine’s dark roast. Another is with Prairie View A&M University’s nearby campus, allowing students to use the office space 24/7.
Plans are underway for planter boxes to start a community garden, a special day for content creators, a food pantry to help neighbors in need and scholarships tied to student artwork.
“We want to get everybody around us involved in what we have going on here,” Lewis said.
Located at 6510 Bourgeois Road, Houston, The Office at GP isn’t just a place to work; it’s a place to begin. Whether you’re tired of working from home or ready to launch something big, The Office at GP gives you the space to focus, connect and grow—right here in your backyard.
“Everyone’s idea is safe here,” Lewis said. “Your idea is your own. It’s unique to you, and you can be whoever you want to be in this space. We open our arms to everybody.”
