When the founder of Plush Nail Bar, Cindy Mai Phan, opened her first salon, she wasn’t just chasing a business idea; she was building an environment centered on joy, luxury and meticulous care.

“I want to create an environment where I can take pampering, spoiling and nail [care] to a different level,” Phan said.

“I managed other salons before this, and I’ve learned from [those experiences],” Phan said.

Much of Plush’s success can be attributed to Phan’s emphasis on quality and training. She personally oversees a training process that all technicians complete before ever working with a client.

“I have a place where I train every new employee after they have graduated from cosmetology school,” Phan said. “They have to complete all of the requirements … before I hire them to work for Plush.”

New team members are coached not only on technical skills, but also on client interaction, shaping, cuticle care and more.

To keep quality consistent across all locations, she’s built a strong internal team that visits each salon regularly and follows a standardized system of service.

“Our team always goes to different salons, and all of the managers have to follow a [specific] training plan,” Phan said.

Staying on trend

In the world of beauty, styles move fast, but Plush Nail Bar keeps up.

“Every week, we update [and adapt to] new trends and new products,” Phan said. “We always [incorporate] whatever is trending into our services.”

Looking ahead

“It has been rewarding to open five salons, and soon we’ll have two more. I get to create a lot of jobs for people,” Phan said.

As she looks to the future, Phan’s ambitions are clear.

“I want to [continue to] be a growing company, and I want to take Plush Nail Bar to a different level,” Phan said.
