Below is a roundup of Montgomery County high school football games from Friday night.
Willis 54, New Caney 21
Willis began its District 13-6A schedule with an emphatic 54-21 victory against defending champion New Caney at Randall Reed Stadium.
The Wildkats improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2016 and avenged a 62-28 loss against the Eagles (2-1, 0-1) from last season. New Caney lost in district play for the first time since the final week of the 2021 season.
Willis quarterback D.J. Lagway had another strong performance with five touchdown passes.
Jalen Mickens caught three touchdown passes while DeBraun Hampton and Romel Stevens each had one.
Terri Lawrence rushed for a touchdown as did Jermaine Bishop Jr.
Dravon Wilson had two touchdowns for New Caney – one rushing and one receiving. David Stewart had a 4-yard touchdown run in the first half. The Eagles also had a safety.
New Caney had won three straight matchups against Willis and went 7-0 in 13-6A action last year after moving up to Class 6A.
Willis plays host to I-45 rival Conroe next Friday. New Caney, meanwhile, is on the road against The Woodlands next Thursday.
Conroe 42, Caney Creek 9
Conroe improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2013 with a 42-9 victory over Caney Creek at Moorhead Stadium in the District 13-6A opener for both teams.
It was homecoming for the Tigers and quarterback Christian Nunley showed out. He ran in two scores and threw for another in the fourth quarter to Tyler Wise.
Running back Dramekco Green had rushing scores of 13 and 9 yards respectively for Conroe.
For Caney Creek (2-1, 0-1), Logan Massey kicked a 32-yard field goal in the first quarter. A Jaiden Graves 1-yard touchdown run with 14 seconds left before halftime cut the Panthers deficit to 21-9.
The Tigers have been stout defensively this season and have outscored their opponents 112-16. Conroe will get a bigger test next Friday on the road against Willis, another 3-0 team averaging 50.3 points per game.
Conroe has won two straight matchups in the series against Willis, including a 28-24 victory at home last year.
Caney Creek hosts Grand Oaks (0-3, 0-1) Friday at Moorhead Stadium.
Lake Creek 63, Waller 24
Lake Creek scored a season-high in points as it romped past Waller 63-24 Friday in non-district play.
The Lions (3-0) had four touchdown passes and a rushing score from quarterback Eli Morcos. Kade Yeary, Peyton Trummell, Ayden Leitz and Reed Newkirk each caught touchdown passes.
Junior running back Tyvonn Byars rushed for 135 yards and three scores. Elijah Naziruddin also found the end zone.
Gerard Culotta had 10 tackles (two for loss) and forced a fumble. Kyler Burden recovered a fumble.
Lake Creek travels to Bellaire 7 p.m. Thursday at Butler Stadium.
Porter 27, Kingwood Park 21
Porter opened District 8-5A Division with a 27-21 win at Kingwood Park Friday night.
Kingwood Park (2-1, 0-1) led the Spartans (2-1, 1-0) 21-7 in the fourth quarter.
Spartans quarterback Payton Evans-Pickens threw two touchdown passes and rushed for two more. Marion Lewis and Anthony Pontonova had touchdown receptions for Porter. Landon Binford ran for 70 yards on eight touches. Ryan Gilliam had nine tackles.
Kingwood Park had touchdowns from Aiden Troost, Brayden Moronko and Jaxon Sims.
Kingwood Park travels to Baytown Sterling on Friday. Porter hosts Port Arthur Memorial the same night.
Dayton 39, Montgomery 34
Montgomery rallied for 27 points in the fourth quarter, but Dayton’s lead was too much as the Broncos won the non-district meeting 39-24.
The Bears drop to 0-3 for the second straight year. Dayton is 2-1.
Broncos quarterback Denim Foster threw for three scores and rushed for three more. He totaled 156 passing yards and rushed for 127. Zach Breaux (three receptions, 102 yards), Jesse Price and Dawson Victorian had touchdown receptions.
Montgomery quarterback Reggie Williams had 165 yards passing and two touchdowns while rushing for another.
Jake Wilson had four receptions for 113 yards and a score. Damian Taylor had a rushing score while DQ Swapsy had four runs for 103 yards. Taylor had 87 yards.
Dayton begins District 9-5A Division II play Sept. 22 at Santa Fe.
Montgomery travels to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday for a neutral non-district game against Argyle.
Galena Park 63, Splendora 14
Galena Park roughed up Splendora in non-district play Friday night, 63-14.
The Yellowjackets (2-1) scored their most points since putting up 64 against Sharpstown in 2020.
Splendora (1-2) was led by Angel Moreno, who caught 10 passes (two touchdowns) for 115 yards. Quarterback Jacob Lubbers threw both touchdown passes and totaled 223 yards. He was picked off four times.
Galena Park hosts Texas City Sept. 22 to begin District 9-5A Division II.
Splendora continues non-district play Friday at Hamshire-Fannett.
Dallas St. Mark’s 15, John Cooper 8
The Dragons fell to 0-3 on a weather-shortened 15-8 game at Dallas St. Mark’s Friday night.
Colton Rhodes III rushed for 78 yards and the lone touchdown for the Dragons.
John Cooper plays Greenhill Friday as SPC 3A play begins at 7 p.m.
