Coushatti Trace – Celebrating Final Meeting Before Summer
The final meeting of the Coushatti Trace Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) year and final meeting of the current board was certainly full of pomp and circumstance, awards and celebration, tears, and laughter, shared with members, old friends, new friends, and a state officer and the Freedom Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). The agenda was packed to the brim as we welcomed our newest members, inducted our new board, recognized our scholarship recipients, and presented the Freedom Chapter SAR with awards and medals. During our business meeting, emotional goodbyes to our outgoing Regent, Kay Pontious, with certificates and flowers recognizing her successful tenure and accomplishments capped off a very wonderful meeting.
Texas DAR/SAR/S.R. State Chair Jean Kanter awarded Coushatti Trace Chapter 1st Place for the “Highest Number of Joint Activities with SAR” at State Conference. We work with Freedom Chapter SAR, the most active chapter in the state, maybe the nation. Coushatti Trace awarded two Hannah White Arnett Medals to Loren Johnston and John Meredith and 7 America 250 Medals to Loren, John, David Hamaker, Ed Sellards, Charles Lano and Art Byrum. Don Hayes was not present, so his medal was awarded at their SAR meeting. These hardworking men have supported many events, including “Life in Colonial America” school presentations, Color Guard at chapter meetings, Constitution Week skits, Patriot Grave Marking ceremonies, America 250 activities, Never Forget Gardens, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Ceremonies, to name a few.
The chapter presented a $1500 Chapter scholarship to Kennedy Pinard, a senior at Willis High School who will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall. DAR Good Citizen Scholarships of $500 each were awarded to Willis High School Senior, Cade Ford, who is attending Brigham Young University and Montgomery High School Senior Addison Hedges, who will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall.
The chapter has added more than fifty members during the last two years under the leadership of Regent Kay Pontious and this last chapter meeting in her tenure was a celebration of the accomplishments of the chapter driven by her passion for excellence. The chapter recognized her with the Honorary Regent Status as reward for her tireless efforts on behalf of the chapter.
