This will be conductor Gary Liebst’s second season with the group.
““I am really excited about being back for a second year as the conductor of the CSO and we have a great season planned for 2023-24,” Liebst said. “I think our patrons will enjoy our new home at the First Methodist Church of Conroe. It is a beautiful facility and one of the few places in Conroe big enough to hold all 60 members of the symphony.”
The Conroe Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1997 to contribute to the cultural enrichment of the community and assure a better quality of life for the Conroe area.
The Oct. 21 concert “With a Latin Flair” starts at 2:30 p.m.
At this concert, the symphony will welcome to their stage Latin jazz singer Ermelinda Cuellar. Cuellar is known to Houston audiences for her beautiful vocal quality. Born to Peruvian parents in Texas, Cuellar has been recognized by music critics for her precise intonation, inventive improvisations, and passionate story-telling in both English and Spanish.
The group’s holiday concert is set for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 16. The theme is “The Season to be Jolly,” with vocal soloist Cody Arthur. A native of Memphis, Arthur lives in Houston where he teaches music and performs with community organizations.

The February concert set for 2:30 p.m. Feb. 17 is a nod to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which starts in February and themed “Rodeo Roundup.” This event will feature music from Western television and movie themes.
The April concert at 2:30 p.m. April 13 has the theme of “Space: The Final Frontier.”
“One of the fun parts of being the director of such a fine orchestra is that you get to choose the music themes and literature for the season. This is one of my favorite things to do and I get to match the strengths of the orchestra with great classical pieces and arrangements from all genres of music,” Liebst. “I have picked a spectacular variety of different styles and the audience will get to enjoy some familiar classical melodies, great music from
Broadway, some classic Latin influenced hits as well as some enduring Western themes from our history.”
On the Saturday night before the Fourth of July, the symphony also takes part in Conroe’s Stars and Stripes celebration at Heritage Place Park. The symphony plays patriotic music at 8 p.m. at the park prior to the fireworks show.
“We are excited to offer a diverse lineup this season as well as a new venue,” said Laura Trahan, publicist for the symphony.
