Conroe residents again will see their garbage and recycling rate increase beginning Oct. 1 as part of the city’s contract with Waste Management.
Collin Boothe, assistant city manager and director of finance, said the city’s contract with the garbage firm began in October 2017. The contract covers residential and small commercial services and automatically includes a rate increase of 1.9 percent on Oct. 1 of each contract year.
Boothe said the rate for one trash cart and one recycling cart rate will go to $17.47 from $17.14 monthly.

The increase covers expenses incurred by the city, including the city’s billing department for the services and maintaining streets due to wear and tear from garbage/recycling trucks.
“It nets us about $515,000 in the general fund,” Boothe said.
The garbage rate increase comes after a water and sewer rate increases for both commercial and residential customers for 2024. Commercial customers will increase by 6.75 percent with residents seeing their bills increase by 3.25 percent.
Boothe said the proposed rate would increase a residential bill for 15,000-gallon users to $209 monthly from $206. Commercial customers using 100,000 gallons a month will see their bill climb to $1,673 from $1,540.
