“Everybody can be great because everybody can serve” – Martin Luther King Jr.
This week the Conroe Noon Lions Club (CNLC) remembered James Michael Stewart. He was a Lion for 53 years and a role model to many. Mr. Stewart led with a servant heart and made an impact on many lives in the community. He was laid to rest in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors and a memorial service was held at First Baptist Church, Conroe on Thursday, Aug. 31. As we mourn the passing of a great man, we continue to serve in his honor. The Lions Club of Conroe has many opportunities to give back.
The Lions Club held their monthly Service Saturday August 26, 2023, at Havenwood Senior Apartments. The members and volunteers hosted an ice cream and pizza social for the residents. It was an honor to hear the stories while passing time with games and fellowship. The day was a treat for all that attended! The next Service Saturday will be held on September 16, 2023. Please check back for announcements of next months project.
Supporting and growing the youth in our community is a passion. CNLC will be participating in “Reading for Reeves” on September 20, 2023. Conroe ISD – O.A. Reeves Elementary School is the adoptive school of the CNLC. Members of the club read to the classrooms and promote literacy.
Don’t think that older students are forgotten! The CNLC is launching a new LEO Club, a service organization geared toward teens that also helps students develop leadership, project management, communication, and creative skills. And most important, it is FUN! If you are a teen or have a teen that loves service, have them attend the next meeting on September 12, 2023, at the CNLC office at 1106 Wilson Road.
Service is the club’s heart. However, we also love a good party! This week we were honored to have Kristi Leggett and Stephen Naleway as guest speakers to update us on the upcoming Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival. This is the 34th year of the festival, time flies when you are having fun! The festival will be held in Downtown Conroe from October 13th through 15th. It is a family-friendly event that features live music, food vendors a carnival, and arts & craft vendors. The non-profit organization, Friends of Conroe, puts on the event and all profits go back into the community! What is better than having a good time while supporting the community?!
