But most notable has been their incredible work to grow our Conroe LEO Club full of area high school students from a dozen members to a vibrant engaged group of seventy “go getters”.
First Vice President Sharene Carr briefed us on the tremendous investment of our Community Partners whose 19 years of financial and community support to Conroe Noon Lions have provided the financial basis for members to amplify the impact many folds in the community. Those impacts have been: 1) Thousands of “man-hours” of volunteer work at area locations and organizations to repair facilitate and bring cheer and support to our much less fortunate members of the community. 2) Impactful scholarships for local students, life changing vision screening and support to area children and adults unable to attain vision support elsewhere. 3) Eyeglass recycling to support missions around the world. 4) Eyeglass fabrication in partnership with local Eye Doctors and School Nurses to provide glasses to children in need from the community who could not succeed in school otherwise. 5) Regular engagement with our adopted Reaves Elementary School to read to classes, reward incentives and provide several exciting events every year. 6) Provide engaged manpower and financial support to special needs children at our annual “kids on the lake” fishing tournament and ongoing labor and financial support to Texas Lions Camp. 7) Organized a quick response team to assist Lions and families after the impact of Hurricane Beryl to lessen the burden on our community first responders already working overtime. All our Community Partners embody the motto of “Doing Good is Good Business” and Conroe Noon Lions make sure their donations are powerful forces for good across our community.
Past President Warner Phelps served as the Master of Ceremony and introduced our speaker Coach Tyke Tolbert. Coach Tolbert was a standout Conroe High School football player, a collegiate star for LSU and moved up to become a legendary coach in the NFL for 23 years to achieve a Super Bowl 50 victory with the Denver Broncos. He underscored the key to success as “PASSION” for what a player is doing and the passion to relentlessly improve. The path is loyalty, preparation and perseverance at every stage of the game for every player and coach. All holding each other accountable as a team.
