Conroe Noon Lions celebrated the induction of ten new members, the Lions Clubs International Foundations’ recognition of one of our superstars and the District Convention recognition of a District Hall of Fame inductee and a Distinguished Achievement Award recipient.
The Melvin Jones Fellowships are awarded to the “Best of the Best”. PDG Reynolds invited Past President Bobby Brennan to make the introduction for Past President, Lion Helen Thornton. Conroe Noon recognized Helen with this honor because of her years of great leadership, service on nearly every committee at some point and continued enthusiastic engagement across all club and District activities uniquely qualify her to be a Progressive Melvin Jones Honoree. She was presented with a pin and a beautiful plaque by PDG Reynolds.
The recent District 2-S2 Convention awarded our own Past President Wes Carr with a Lions Club International President’s Award for his formation of an Alert Team with the capacity to help our community in times of disaster recovery. During the convention, Lion Ladoris Cates was inducted to the District 2 S2 Hall of Fame for her years of service, leadership and exemplary advocacy for Lions. Lion Sheila Thomas was given a PDG Distinguished Achievement Award for her past and ongoing nonstop engagement to Texas Lions Camp and her role as a Director to lead the Camp into the future with greater support for the physically challenged kids all across Texas. Lion Morgan Freeman thanked everyone who helped plan and organize the District Convention and the CNLC sponsored Hospitality Suite.
Past District (PDG) Governor Rick Reynolds served as the VIP to carry out the New Member Induction and recognition ceremonies. PDG Reynolds is a member of Cut N Shoot Family Lions Club and a great supporter of all Lions throughout the district and state. Our new members and their sponsors were invited to the front for the membership oath to be administered by PDG Reynolds and for each to receive their membership certificates, CNLC cap and to be pinned by their sponsors. PDG Reynolds underscored his welcome to these new Lions as they not only joined a club, but more importantly have joined a family of Lions and the beginning of years of great friends and fellowship in service to our community. Past President Scott Perry interviewed each new member tolerant more about them and to break the ice with gentle fun and funny quiz questions and responses.
2nd Vice President Sharene Carr asked everyone to honor our Hometown Hero, Sergeant Avery Kilgo, United States Marine Corps by wearing their most patriotic Red, White and/or Blue to our meeting next week. He will be attending that day and will be awarded a personalized hand-crafted American Flag as a token our appreciation for his service to our Country.
