It’s been said, “Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion” and this proved true in big ways last week. Conroe Noon Lions were stepping up and serving all over our community.
One of the biggest opportunities to fill needs and have a grand time every year is in the concession stand at the Montgomery County Fair. 2nd VP, Jake Freeman, shared a great story as he gave the concessions report at the weekly meeting on Wednesday. After a long day at the fair, he a few other Lions went to the Waffle House for a late-night meal. After finding out the group were Lions, their server shared that the glasses she had as a little girl came from the Lions Club, because her family was unable to buy them for her because of the financial burden. She was able to see clearly because of the eyeglasses provided by Lions. This is what our efforts are all about, and it was a great reminder to hear of how individuals’ lives are impacted because of our Lions’ generous servants’ hearts!
We’re doing more ‘service’ during Service Saturday – which was April 19th, at Lions Wes & Sharene Carr’s house. Lions created footlockers for the Texas Lions Camp. The goal was to build 30 footlockers, and we’re determined to get’ter done! Speaking of the Texas Lions Camp don’t forget Lions to mark your calendar for Work Weekend – Saturday, May 3rd. It’s always a fun and meaningful day of service. Please sign up ASAP as hotel reservations need to be made quickly!
Other events coming our way is the Lions District 2S2 Convention – April 25 – 26 – at the Houston Mariott North. We are extremely honored that Lions Ladoris Cates & Sheila Thomas will be recognized by all Lions around the greater Houston area. Let’s plan for a strong showing of support for these wonderful lady Lions!

Our program speaker at the regular Conroe Noon Lions lunch meeting on Wednesday, April 16th was Joey Wyatt with Texas Mobile Imaging. This was Joey’s 4th time giving his presentation to Lions concerning early detection and prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke. Joey shared sobering statistics about how symptoms may not show up before it is too late and can be silent killers. Texas Mobile Imaging is testing to help prevent catastrophic cardiovascular in the Conroe community, if you’re interested call to schedule an appointment.
Quote of the Week: “Do small things with great love. Sometimes the smallest things are the biggest.” – Unknown
As Lions, this rings true. Whether it’s handing out hot dogs, sorting eyeglasses, or welcoming new members — it’s the small acts, done with heart, that make the biggest impact. Lions keep showing up with love in everything we do.
