The summer heat doesn’t slow down the Conroe Noon Lions Club work. Several of our Lions attended the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville for disabled children to work as coordinators and helpers. The Texas Lions Camp is a statewide Lions Club project supported by all Texas Lions Clubs.  There is nothing more beautiful than the smiles on the faces of the children at Lions Camp!

Our latest project brought Lions together this week during one of our Service Saturdays here in Conroe to prepare care packages for local children undergoing treatment for cancer.  Delivery to Texas Children’s Hospital will come soon.

This week we presented our annual Club awards.  Attendance awards were given to individuals who had perfect attendance (either at the weekly meetings or through make-up meetings done at special meetings or events within two weeks of the meeting)–not an easy accomplishment!  We had members with perfect attendance ranging from one year all the way to 34 years.  When added together they represent 199 years! Those members were: Virginia Clement, Tim Cox, David Fallin, Duayne Freeman, Jake Freeman, Jane Johnson, Karl Johnson, Connie McNabb, Ricky Morton, Julie Staat, John Stacy, Sandy Apostolo, Ladoris Cates, Connie Engle, Tracy Irvine, Hannah Medley, and President Bryan Renell, congrats to all!

District honors were given to several club members to honor them for their assistance with the District’s Camp fundraiser.  They were presented by the Camp Director Shelia Thomas, congrats to, Morgan Freeman, Madison Perry, Andrew Perry, Connie Engle, Connie McNabb, Helen Thornton.  Graduations occur at the Texas Lions Camp each week for the children and their families brought about by the hard work and tender-loving-care of these and other Lions from around the State.  Thank you, Lions!

Many members received awards and special recognition for accomplishing many volunteer projects completed this past Lion year (our years run from July through June) which include: High School scholarship and Contest awards, Service Saturday projects, Hometown Military Hero project, County Fair Concessions, Fair Buyers Group, Sight Programs for eye exams and glasses for school aged children, Adopt Reaves Elementary School, and the many other projects we’ve done during this year. We will close out this Lion year on Wednesday with Coach Tyke Tolbert (former NFL player–now Coach) entertaining our Community Partners at the noon luncheon. We especially appreciate our Community Partners who make all our service projects possible.

Finally, a HARDY FAIRWELL to outgoing President Bryan Rennell and a HURRAH to the incoming President, Tracy Irvine and her team.  We thanked Bryan and welcomed Tracy at our annual Installation Banquet this past weekend.  And thank you to all the unnamed members who roll up your sleeves and make the Conroe Noon Lions, “the Greatest Lions Club In The World!”

Please come and join us any Wednesday at noon.  The food is good, and fellowship is great!  The Conroe Noon Lions Club meets on Wednesdays, at noon, at the Lone Star Convention Center.  For more information about the Conroe Noon Lions Club, please visit our website, www.conroenoonlions.org, or call the club office at 936-760-1666.
