If you’re planning to be at the Montgomery County Fair this week, make sure you stop by the Conroe Noon Lions Club concession stand in the livestock barn. Not only can you get some delicious food at a great price, but you will also be supporting our service efforts. This is our one service project of the year that brings out all of our 300-plus members.
Although this week is all about the fair, here’s a few highlights from last week
● John Sellers with Stoecker Corporation plus, Mark and Tommy Curlee with Tommy’s Paint and Body were Community Partners of the Week.
● 25 new members were inducted into the Conroe Leo Club
● $2850 was raised at our club meeting for the Conroe Noon Lions Club Members – Fair Buyers Group. The money will purchase items at the various Montgomery County Fair Auctions benefiting students in our area.
● A few dedicated members turned up Saturday at our eyeglass center to sort and organize a backlog of eyeglass donations needed to fill mission trips around the world.
● Evelyn Martinez with the Sunshine Kids organization spoke to our club. Sunshine Kids support kids with cancer and their families through a variety of free events nationwide. The national office is in Houston and our Lions District 2S2 is a local partner.
This week let’s shine the spotlight on the Conroe Leo Club. Leo Clubs are the youth organizations of Lions Club International. Two years ago, our Leo club committee, which sponsors the youth club, decided to expand the membership outside of Conroe High School to community members aged 12-18. Some of our younger Lions have taken the Leo Club to the next level, on pace to having over 70 members this year. Not only is the membership growing, but the members are engaged. The Leo’s are forming their own leadership and organizing projects all over the community. Conroe Noon Lion members Hannah Medley, Morgan Freeman, Jake Freeman, Madison Perry, Amanda Anders and others have done an outstanding job. For more information about our Leo club and how to get involved visit https://conroenoonlions.org/page/leo. Why is this important? Our world, our nation, our community will benefit from these young leaders learning the value of service.
One of the things I admire most about our club is our ability to rise to a challenge and make things better. It’s an exciting time to be a Conroe Noon Lions Club member. We have members spanning from their 20s to their 90s. Our upcoming projects and events include making foot lockers for campers at the Texas Lions Camp on April 19, hosting the hospitality suite at the District Convention April 25-26, and a road trip to Kerrville for our annual work weekend helping prepare the Texas Lions Camp for summer campers. Those who attended these events in the past can assure us all will have a good time.
