Hello Readers! I hope your Easter holiday was a happy and peaceful one. But as usual we must get back to our busy schedule ahead and back to our community service. Conroe Noon Lions met on Wednesday and President Bryan Rennell called the meeting to order.
The meet and greet was a lively and noisy time with everyone enjoying seeing each other. “God Bless America” was led by Lion Judge Wayne Mack followed by our pledges to both flags. A beautiful invocation was given by Lion Bobby Brennan, and our guests were welcomed by Lion Chris Forbes. Then there was Lion Warner Phelps, our club Tail Twister, being his usual obnoxious self, pestering and interrupting our meeting fining Lions so he can fill his potty pan with money.
On to the latest announcements. Lion Brandon Steinmann gave a report from our Conroe Noon Lions Club – Members Buyers Group who participated at the Montgomery County Fair Auction. This is a ‘members’ buyers’ group and no charity funds are used to participate. Donations come from the Lions personally and are used to purchase items at all the auctions to help our youth. Conroe Noon Lions are the best!
Lion Helen Thornton introduced a special guest from our adopted school Reaves Elementary, school counselor Megan Horrigan, who came bearing gifts. She presented goodie baskets filled to the brim as a form of thanks to all the club members who participate with the students in the various events all year long. Conroe Noon originally adopted the school in 2012 and our members enjoy all the many smiles and hugs received from the kids.
Club secretary Lion Andrew Perry reported on our recent Service Saturday where Lions gathered at Lions Wes & Sharene Carr’s home to build footlockers. They cut, built, assembled and painted 31-footlockers for our Texas Lions Camp. Fun, food and a great time was had by all. Staying on the topic of the Texas Lions Camp, he reminded everyone that the Work Weekend at the camp is coming up on Saturday, May 3rd. We’ll be delivering our footlockers as well as tackling other work projects, members should sign up and plan to go.
Though we generally have a speaker or presenter, today there was club business to tackle, Club Elections. The elections were led by 1st VP Tracy Irvine. First, we voted for our club officers & directors, it is very rewarding to see the outstanding members who contribute their time and talents to lead our great club. The results were announced, and it looks like Conroe Noon is in good hands. Votes for the special honors of ‘Rookie’ and ‘Lion of the Year’ were cast next, but these results won’t be revealed until our year end Installation Banquet in June.
President Bryan closed out the meeting with a reminder about this past weekend’s District 2S2 Convention in Houston. Conroe Noon is proud to have two honorees being recognized at this event. Lion Shelia Thomas will be receiving the Past District Governors’ Distinguished Achievement Award, and I am extremely thrilled to be named for the District Hall of Fame Award. I know it will be a fabulous time for all Lions around the greater Houston area.
Please come join us any Wednesday, at the Lone Star Convention Center, I’d love to see you.
