Conroe has moved to the second stage of its drought contingency plan for the northwest area of the city as it limits outdoor watering.

City Administrator Gary Scott said the action is due to drought conditions combined with a reduced rate of groundwater production from a well.

On Thursday, the city announced the plan that limits outdoor watering from 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Refilling swimming pools and car washing also must be done between those hours. Ornamental fountains are prohibited except to support aquatic life.

Residents can be fined up to $400 for violations of the plan.

Montgomery County is remains under a burn ban as temperatures continue to climb into triple digits daily with little rain.

However, rain is possible this weekend, says Houston Chronicle Newsroom Meteorologist Justin Ballard.

Storms will bubble up first north and east of Houston before shifting into Harris County by late Friday afternoon and early evening, Ballard said.

The Friday evening commute could be slowed down because of these storm clusters. Friday night football games may need to be delayed or canceled, depending on the exact timing of storms.

With the extreme heat providing plenty of fuel for thunderstorms to feed on as they move into Southeast Texas, damaging winds and large hail will be possible. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has most of Southeast Texas under the risk of severe storms through Friday evening, especially along and east of Interstate 45.
