Popular Conroe military-themed restaurant Honor Cafe is expanding north to Huntsville.

The Honor Cafe Huntsville location opens at 7 a.m. Wednesday at 2703 Sam Houston Ave., near the Sam Houston State University campus and across the street from the Texas National Guard center.

The Conroe restaurant serves as a home base for several military and veteran-service organizations, and donations from community members have turned it into an unofficial military history museum that serves up diverse American-style comfort food and breakfast all day.

NEW MENU ROLL OUT: Conroe’s Honor Cafe rolls out expanded menu with piled-high burger, Texas charcuterie board

“We want this platform to spread out and we think that it’s doing good things for the community. Now five years out in Conroe, this is the community’s restaurant. I’d expect that in Huntsville as well,” said Chris Sadler, who owns both locations with wife, Mandi.

Chris Sadler is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former law enforcement officer. He said customer demand is one of the drivers of the expansion.

Loyal followers would travel from the Huntsville area to the Conroe restaurant often and ask them when they would come to Huntsville. He said the people of Huntsville love veterans and veteran families.

“God laid out an opportunity in front of us with the building,” Sadler said. The new location was previously a small car dealership, a gas station, a few restaurants and an office. “We’re excited to get in there and get busy.”

THE BUCKET LIST: Conroe’s Honor Café to be featured on ‘Texas Bucket List’ show

The couple said the menu will be the same with chef Dylan Evelyn at the helm, but there will be less seating — 150 to 175 seats with no private room. A 20-foot wall will be open for the public to bring military memorabilia for display.

“We are calling it our Honor Wall,” Mandi Sadler said. There will also be a “Bearkat Corner” paying homage to the nearby university.

In June 2024, Honor Cafe rolled out a new menu with featured items including the piled high “Welcome Home Burger,” a Texas Charcuterie Board, the Officer’s Club Braised Beef, a new build-your-own burger option, a chicken-fried steak sandwich and two po-boy sandwiches.

The Conroe restaurant has been featured on “The Texas Bucket List” television series and CBS Mornings.

Huntsville hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday with Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
