The Conroe ISD Police Department is investigating a stabbing at Oak Ridge High School that left one student injured.

In a letter to parents, Oak Ridge High School Principal Shawn Almond said the student’s injuries were non-life threatening.

“Campus administration and the Conroe ISD Police Department investigated the matter and are addressing it in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the laws of the State of Texas,” Almond stated.

The district did not release any further details about the Tuesday incident.

In May, Conroe ISD reported a similar incident at College Park High School where two students were involved in an altercation in a locker room before school started. A student suffered minor injuries in that fight, district officials said.

Splendora ISD last week reported an incident where a student was stabbed during a fight Oct. 23.

That incident prompted the district to update its cell phone policy.

“It was a scary situation,” Superintendent Jeff Burke said of the incident. “We want to do everything we can to help prevent that from happening and mitigate it. … We’re continuously looking for new ways to enhance security.”

According to a letter sent to parents, the new Splendora ISD policy restricts cellphone use by junior high and high school students during class transition periods. They are allowed to use cellphones only during breakfast, lunch and after-school hours, “with an emphasis on appropriate activities,” the district’s letter states.

Students found recording video or engaging in what the district deems inappropriate behavior could lose phone privileges for the entire semester, the letter states.

Conroe ISD’s policy is similar and restricts cellphone usage during the day. For pre-kindergarten through sixth grade the use of cellphones and smartwatches will only be permitted in extenuating circumstances with permission from a staff member.
