Downtown Conroe’s biggest party has taken over the courthouse square this weekend for the return of the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival.

For more than 30 years, the event has taken place in downtown celebrating the food, music and flavor of our Louisiana neighbors. The event opened Friday night and continues from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The nonprofit group the Friends of Conroe puts on the event every year. Proceeds from the event support student scholarships and the annual Friends Feeding Friends Thanksgiving meal.

The festival has two performance stages — the DeMontrond Stage with a country flair and the Cajun stage for Cajun and Zydeco music. Blackberry Smoke is the headliner on the DeMontrond Stage from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie will headline the Cajun stage from 10 to midnight Saturday.

The Mr. and Miss Catfish Pageant for babies through teens is from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday on the Montgomery County Courthouse steps.

Also, Sunday is Hispanic Family Day at the festival featuring the band De Parranda.

Tickets are available online throughout the festival. Admission for children age 12 and younger is free.

Presale tickets online cost $15 or $30 for a weekend pass.

Tickets at the gate cost $20 for general admission.Â
