Here are some things to know about the film:

What is “The Author?”

For more than 25 years, Sam Cable, a Conroe High retired math teacher and Chuck Walker, a former Olympic boxer, have made movies together in Montgomery County.

In spring 2021, the duo teamed up with Ritchey Cable, a pastor in Kansas City to film a movie he wrote, “The Author.”

The film centers on an author who is in a car accident. He is struggling with his faith and is asked to write about his life.

Ritchey Cable called the film a “journey for the soul.”

It questions if this world is just a bunch of chaos or is there some order or orchestrated plan to all this chaos.

Where was the movie filmed?

The movie was filmed at businesses and personal property in the Conroe area. Some locations included the Crighton Theatre, the former Flourish restaurant, Lone Star Family Health Center, Heather’s Glen now The Vale wedding venue, Frank and Bell Jackson’s house and Seth and Betty Gibson’s house.

A cast and crew of approximately 40 gathered for the first time on the evening of April 14, 2021 before filming began on April 15, 2021 around Montgomery County. Filming wrapped on May 8, 2021.

Who is in the movie?

Clint Harp, Ritchey’s college roommate at Baylor, plays Ryan, the lead role’s best friend. Harp is featured in Chip and Joanna Gaine’s “Fixer Upper” show based in the Waco area.

The film also features Ashton Brooke Gill, a Louisiana native, who participated on “American Idol.”

She plays young musician Sara Tolleson in the film.
