The parade is organized by The South County Fourth of July Committee, a nonprofit funded by community donations and sponsorships and  comprised of volunteers responsible for the annual parade.

The parade was originally organized by The Woodlands Lions Club in the late 1970s before the formation of The South County Fourth of July Committee in the early 1990s.

The parade has regularly featured more than 150 entries including bands, patriotic floats, community groups and elected officials. It is a highlight of the Fourth of July holiday in The Woodlands and has attracted more than 20,000 viewers at previous parades.

The parade steps off at 9 a.m. and line up is along Lake Woodland Drive. Volunteers are sought for the 2025 parade.
