It’s hot, hot, hot, but that’s not keeping Rotarians from “doin’ all the good” all around town. Service Above Self won’t be stopped by a little heat wave.

Conroe Rotarians Cecily and Ed Kelly spent some very productive hours assisting fellow Rotarian Datrin Rogers with his summer program at The Conroe Recreational Center for high school kids. For one of the group’s Days of Service, 33 teenagers packed lunch bags for Meals on Meals customers. President Elect Ed spoke to the kids about Rotary and what it means to be in Rotary and serve the community. One eighth grade student even asked Ed how long she’d have to wait to become a Rotarian. Great question! I’m sure Ed’s answer was something along the lines of the path starts in High School with Interact, then moves to Rotaract for young adult, and then the final transition into a full on Rotarian. This is always a great project and Rotary thanks Ed and Cecily for their dedication each year.

The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe has successfully transitioned to a 1st and 3rd Tuesday luncheon club with great results. The club welcomes potential new members to come for lunch and check them out. See the club’s website for upcoming meeting dates and speakers. Right up front though, there is one change for August. The club will skip their Tuesday, August 1st meeting at Amore Fine Dining, and instead will travel to The Woodlands on Thursday, August 3rd for a “Collaborative Club Visit” by new District 5910 Governor Amy Kilgore at The Woodlands Palmer Country Club. Four local clubs – The Woodlands, Conroe, Lake Conroe and Magnolia – will all meet together with Governor Amy to hear her plans and goals for the 2023-2024 Rotary year. Governor visits are a hallmark of a Governor’s year and although the Governors really enjoy the visits, they certainly are time consuming. Governor Amy’s idea to combine visits to clubs who are geographically close to one another makes perfect sense.

The Rotary Club of Conroe will continue with their Tuesday August 1st club luncheon meeting in order to host State Representative Will Metcalf for a long planned visit and then members will also travel to The Woodlands on Thursday.
