H-E-B plans to open a new store in Montgomery by late next year.

MONTGOMERY, Texas — A new H-E-B is coming to the city of Montgomery, next to Lake Conroe, with an expected opening date in the third quarter of next year.

The popular San Antonio-based grocery store chain has registered development plans for a 127,186-square-foot store with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

H-E-B LP has owned the 16.75-acre site on the southeastern corner of state Highway 105 and FM 2854 since 2014, according to Montgomery Central Appraisal District records.

H-E-B did not respond to multiple emails asking about the development.

Montgomery Mayor Sara Countryman said the hope is to break ground on the estimated $30 million project in August, adding that the hilly tract needs to be leveled and a detention pond will be dug.
