As the 22nd anniversary of one of America’s darkest days approaches, Montgomery County organizations are planning 9/11 remembrance ceremonies and events.
The first event is Saturday morning and ceremonies will continue through the anniversary date Monday.

Here are five ways Montgomery County residents can participate in memorial events:
Conroe 9/11 Stair Climb
On Saturday morning, the Conroe Firefighters Foundation is hosting the 2nd Annual Conroe 9/11 Stair Climb at Conroe Fire Training Facility, 2357 FM 1484 in Conroe.
The challenge to climb the floors of the training center in full firefighting gear is in tribute to the 343 New York City firefighters who died during 9/11.
Proceeds from the event go to the Conroe Firefighters Foundation which offers financial support for firefighter emergencies and provides professional counseling services at no cost to Conroe firefighters.
There will be food trucks, fire trucks, vendors, fellowship and family fun. Participants can sign up or come out to cheer the climbers on.

Veteran’s Commission
The Montgomery County Veteran’s Memorial Commission that operates the Montgomery County Veteran’s Memorial Park in Conroe will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the entrance to the park which is near the Conroe Central Library at FM 2854 and Interstate 45.
A moment of silence will take place during the ceremony and a timeline of the events of that day will be recited. On the north end of the park, there are two sphere-shaped memorials with one dedicated to those who perished in 9/11 and the other to first responders. Additionally the first responders flag which was designed by commission chairman Jimmie Edwards III, flies at the north end of the park.

Service of Remembrance
From noon to 1 p.m. Monday, The Woodlands Methodist Church hosts a service of Remembrance, Reflection and Renewal in the Robb Chapel on the church campus at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive in The Woodlands.
The service will reflect on those who lost their lives on 9/11 as well as the first responders and their heroism.

Patriot Day of Remembrance
The Woodlands Township will host Patriot Day of Remembrance from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Monday at Central Fire Station, 9951 Grogan’s Mill Road, The Woodlands. The community is invited to attend the ceremony.
Patriot Day of Remembrance will include a presentation of colors by The Woodlands Fire Department Honor Guard along with a reading of “The Fireman’s Prayer” and “The Ringing of the Bell” in honor of fallen firefighters. Limited parking is available onsite at Central Fire Station. The event will also be streamed live on The Woodlands Township Fire Department’s Facebook page.
In addition, residents can join the Township for Concert in the Park featuring First Responders Day on Sunday to honor and thank first responders for their continued to commitment to the community. Enjoy live music by Texas Sundown Band from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive.
Coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are permitted. Food vendors will be onsite providing special offers for first responders.

Service Day in Conroe
The public is invited to attend the Conroe Community Cemetery fall cleanup scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as a way to commemorate 9/11 with a day of service. Volunteers will be raking and filling in verified graves. Rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows are needed. Also needed are gloves. Organizers request no open-toed shoes. The organization Just Serve is sponsoring the clean up at the historic Black cemetery in the 400th block of North 10th Street in Conroe.
