It’s hard to have a bad day when you are surrounded by a sea of pink … and flamingos. Smiles and laughter will be the order of the day for our celebration of Pink Flamingo Day – and it’s all for such an important cause as we partner with the Alzheimer’s Association to kick off our fundraising season with them for 2025.
This Thursday, June 26th at 5 p.m. The 5 O’Clock Phlock will transform the upstairs party room at the new GuadalaHarry’s at 219 Simonton in downtown Conroe into a Parrot Head paradise for this annual Happy Hour event.
Yes, real men do wear pink and dress in Hawaiian shirts with flamingos, but having said all this, pink is not required (just encouraged) for this lighthearted and special evening. There’s no cover for this night of fun and frivolity and the party is open to the public. We love having new faces in the crowd. Music will be provided by Jerry Diaz and The Reef for your dancing and listening pleasure, with tunes that will trop rock your soul. The full yummy restaurant menu will be available.

(Cheeseburgers in Paradise anyone?) and the upstairs bar will be open for us. Harry is such a great host and his demeanor carries over to his enthusiastic and professional staff. We’re so looking forward to this first event with them!
We’ll have best dressed prizes, an Air Guitar Challenge and some great raffle items. Proceeds will benefit The Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day” Campaign. Named for the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, the campaign’s slogan is “The day with the most light is the day we fight” as we battle  to see the first survivor of Alzheimer’s in our lifetime – the research is bringing us closer every day. Improvement in quality of life for those suffering The Long Goodbye is already here, with new medications and therapies to help those we love. Join us as we Party With A Purpose for Alzheimer’s.
A round of applause please for our highly successful Blood Drive on June 14th as we partnered with our friends from The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe at Margaritaville Resort on Lake Conroe. We have so many people to thank – Tom Faust, VP of Marketing at M’Ville who coordinates everything with us; the staff of Landshark Bar and Grill who checked on us all day; Food and Beverage Manager Antonio Marin who went out of his way to help us; staff member Shoh who took photos; the devoted staff of The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Blood Mobile and our rep there Victoria Stoddard. 18 pints of blood were donated in a few short hours, potentially saving more than 50 lives. That’s a win by any measure. Thank you, thank you donors, from the bottom of our hearts!
Start gathering your gently used Hawaiian shirts for our July collection of these colorful beauties for our Hawaiian Shirts for Deployed Soldiers clothing drive. Since 2017 this charity has been sending shirts to our brave men and women serving overseas, each accompanied by a personal thank you note. What a simple way to bring smiles and joy to our brave soldiers. You can learn more about the charity at https://hawaiianshirtsfordeployedsoldiers.org. We’ll include drop-off location information in our next column too. Fins Up!
