June is a month of celebration in our Parrot Head world, and June of 2025 will be no exception for The 5 O’Clock Phlock. Because we always Party With A Purpose, it will also be a month of service and charity.
The first gathering of the month will be tomorrow night June 10th at the beautiful Amore Ristorante on Hwy 105 for our monthly Ladies Night Out, affectionately known as Tuesday Trouble. There is laughter aplenty as our ladies meet in the piano bar for a few hours of cocktails, bar bites and fellowship.
On Saturday June 14th we’ll be hosting a Blood Drive in partnership with our friends from The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe. What better place to park the Coach than in front of Landshark Bar and Grill at Margaritaville Resort Lake Conroe? We’ll be there from 12:30 to 6:30, with music under our tent and some fun giveaways too. As you probably know, every blood donation has the potential to save 3 lives and as summer approaches, the need increases. Go to www.giveblood.org to register to donate, using the sponsor code 5PHC for our drive. You can also check out our club Facebook page for the QR code for the drive. Then treat yourself to lunch or dinner at Landshark as your reward.
Our big event of the month will be our annual “Pink Flamingo” Happy Hour, this year returning to 219 Simonton, now home to GuadalaHarry’s after their move to downtown Conroe. We are so excited to return to this great space and just as excited that it’s now home to this fabulous and fun restaurant. This Happy Hour is in celebration of Pink Flamingo Day June 23rd and folks will arrive decked in head to toe pink and all sorts of flamingo garb. Costume contest? Oh yes! There will be a photo booth and lots of PHun and PHrivolity!
Music will be provided by the always wonderful Jerry Diaz and The Reef. With a Party this big, there has to be a Purpose. This Happy Hour will kick off our Alzheimer’s fundraising season, with proceeds from the raffle and games going to The Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day” Campaign. Named for the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, the campaign’s slogan is “The day with the most light is the day we fight”.
Alzheimer’s is known as “the long goodbye” for good reason. Those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia often live for many years, slowly fading. Unpaid family caregivers are part of that long goodbye and need support and hope – our fundraising efforts are for them too. Our Pink Flamingo HH is open to the public and free. We’ll be upstairs in the party room and hard to miss. Join us, see what a PHC is all about, and help us raise funds for this worthy cause.
We end the month with National Parrot Head Day on June 28th. This year is the 40th anniversary of the term “Parrot Head”, which was coined at a Jimmy Buffett concert on June 28th of 1985 in Cincinnati, OH, due to the colorful dress and hats of the fans in the crowd. The name stuck and here we are 40 years later, still having a wonderful time and doing great work. Fins Up!
