1 dead in car crash near Conroe

A Conroe man is dead after a car crash Monday morning near the city. 

Antonio Martinez, 31, was driving in a 1995 Ford Mustang around 10 a.m. on Crockett Martin Road, eight miles southeast of Conroe, said Sgt. Erik Burse of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Martinez was traveling southbound when he entered the northbound lanes, colliding with a 2023 Hyundai Sonata, Burse said in a written statement. 

Martinez was pronounced dead on scene. 

The driver of the Sonata was taken to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe in fair condition. 

No other information was immediately available. 

DPS is investigating the crash.
