Montgomery County’s largest event will span 10 days April 11-21 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds north east of Conroe. In 2023, the event drew a record 75,000-plus people to the grounds.
Here is what to know about the 2024 edition:
Opening day
The first day of the fair is April 11. New this year, Senior Citizen’s Day will take place on the first day of the 10-day event. It was typically held the Tuesday of fair week.
The event is at 9 a.m. at the Lone Star Convention Center and it draws senior groups from across Montgomery County where the various groups crown a king and queen.
Senior adults may also submit their handicrafts and baked goods for judging. Opening day continues that night with the carnival from 4 to 11 p.m.
Rodeo weekend
The fair really gets rolling on April 12 with Sunshine Day where special needs students enjoy the fair during the day and livestock and non-livestock judging begins.
A Cowboy’s Professional Rodeo Association rodeo is set for 6 p.m. at the Woodforest Bank arena. Following the rodeo country band Jason Boland & The Stragglers perform on the grounds. The concert is included with admission price.
On April 13, judging continues through the day and for the first time a classic car show will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near Woodforest Bank arena.
That night, a Cowboy’s Professional Rodeo Association rodeo will again take place at 6 p.m. A concert with Danielle Bradbery, the 2013 winner of NBC’s “The Voice,” will be on the grounds after the rodeo.
On April 14, a cowboy church service is at 10 a.m. and a ranch rodeo featuring working cowboys from Montgomery and surrounding counties is at 1:30 p.m.
Fair Queen
The Montgomery County Fair Queen will be crowned during the April 13 rodeo at 6 p.m. and she and the queen court will participate in the events of the fair throughout the week.

During the week
Livestock judging continues through the week and admission to the grounds is free Monday through Thursday. Special events during the week include the Non-Livestock Auction at 7 p.m. April 15, a team roping event at 7 p.m. April 16, the Junior Livestock Auction at 6:30 p.m. April 17, Ladies Night with dueling pianos music at 6 p.m. April 18 and a teen dance from 6 to 10 p.m. April 18.
Barbecue cook-off weekend
At 2 p.m. April 19, the fair’s barbecue cook-off commences and continues into the late hours of April 20 at the fair. This year’s cook-off includes 147 teams with booths throughout the grounds.
Awards for best barbecue will be at 6:30 p.m. April 20. Other awards like “Best Dress Port O Can” and “Most Imaginative” will be presented. A washer and cornhole tournament will also be a part of the weekend.
The fair closes its 2024 run with El Dia de La Familia Hispana featuring bands starting at noon April 21.
What to know if you go
On the Montgomery County Fair website, there’s a “Know Before You Go” tab with basic information about the event. A ticket is required April 12-14 and April 19-20.
Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the gate for those age 12 and older. Tickets for children ages 5-11 are $5. Children younger than 5 are admitted for free. A $5 parking fee will be required April 12-14 and April 19-21. Parking may also be paid online in advance.
For El Dia de La Familia Hispana, tickets are $20 online and $25 at the gate. Children younger than 12 are able to enter for free.
No parking fees are charged during the week.
