Today is Valentine’s Day and a day of decadence. It also means that spring is right around the corner. Texas has 19 Wine Trails to welcome you to enjoy special wine tastings, concerts, overnight stays, and more in the Spring, especially with the full eclipse of the Sun in April over most of these wine trails.

The weather all over Texas is bringing the greenery out, making the last week in February, March and April with pleasant temperatures luring you to wineries throughout the State of Texas. These wine trails include:

•    Bay Breeze Wine Trail – Gulf Coast
•    Cross Timbers Wine Trail – North Texas
•    Dallas Town and Country Wine Trail – North Texas
•    Driftwood Wine Trail – Driftwood, TX
•    Dripping Wine Trail – In and Around Dripping Springs, TX
•    Grapevine Wine Trail – Grapevine, TX
•    Guadalupe Valley Wine Country – Central Texas
•    Piney Woods Wine Trail – East Texas
•    Red River Wine Trail – North Texas
•    Sam Houston Wine Trail – East Texas
•    Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail – Southeast Texas
•    Texas Coast Wine Trail
•    Texas High Plains Wine and Vine Trail – Lubbock Area
•    Texas Hill Country Wineries – Fredericksburg Area
•    Texas Independence Wine Trail – South and Central Texas
•    Thirsty Oaks Wine Trail – Texas Hill Country
•    Top of the Hill Country Wine Trail – Texas Hill Country
•    Way Out Wineries – Southwest Texas
•    Wine Road 290 – Fredericksburg Area

The oldest wine trail is the Texas Hill Country Wineries which started in 1999 and has grown to 65 wineries in 2025. There are over 120 wineries in the Texas Hill Country, but only 65 wineries have qualified to become a member of the Texas Hill Country Wineries. This wine trail experiences over two million wine lovers during the last calendar year and that was at the end of the pandemic. These wineries provided jobs for over 141,000 with annual wages approaching seven billion dollars.

These economic numbers are very impressive, but what is impressive is what happens during the entire month of October (Texas Wine Month as designated by the Texas Department of Agriculture) at these 65 wineries. The Wine and Wildflower Journey runs from March 24th to April 18st. Tickets are available online at www.TexasWineTrail.com. Wine tastings are limited to four wineries per day so you can savor each wine with your friends. These wine tastings should normally run about an hour and a half. I suggest taking a picnic lunch and/or dinner with you consisting of cheeses, deli meats, and assorted breads/crackers.

Saturday, February 22nd; Spicewood Vineyards in Spicewood, Texas will host its 17th Annual “Pair It With Claret Chili Cook-Off” at Spicewood Vineyards from 1 to 5 pm. A wide array of chili cooks will be there to tantalize your taste buds along with plenty of Texas wines. Weather should be great! For more information, go to www.SpicewoodVineyards.com

During the months of March and April, run the wine trail of eleven wineries along the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail in the Houston Hill Country. These eleven wineries (Bernhardt Winery, Blue Mule Winery, En Gedi Vineyards & Winery, Golden Oak Micro Cellar, Messina Hof Winery, Perrine Winery, Tempe Creek Vineyards, Texas Star Winery, Teysha Vineyards, Threshold Vineyards, and West Sandy Creek Winery.) have weekend events in addition to the Wine Trail. Check out their websites for concerts and special events. Tickets for the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail must be purchased online at www.TexasBluebonnetWineTrail.com
