US Senior Pickleball (USSP) will be coming to Lake Conroe in October as April Sound Country Club will host the “Lake Conroe Senior Fall Classic presented by Mike Reese of Merrill Lynch”.

The three-day event scheduled for October 13-15 will feature men’s singles on Friday, men’s/women’s doubles on Saturday, and mixed doubles on Sunday. Over 200 players over the age of 50 are expected to compete with “Super Seventies” brackets for players 70 and over.

“With the popularity explosion of pickleball here in Texas it just makes sense for us to bring a USSP event to April Sound”, said Todd James, Tournament Director. “People are staying more active and pickleball is the perfect sport for players entering their retirement phase to play, meet new friends, and see venues that they ordinarily wouldn’t be exposed to.”

Along with the pickleball events of the weekend, the tournament will also provide lunch and a swag bag full of sponsored items for all registered players.

“We provide a ton of giveaways and door prizes for the players, our goal is to have them enjoy themselves along with having a great weekend of competition,” said James.

Since 2020, James has directed over 20 pickleball tournaments throughout the Houston area while raising over $30,000 for local charities such as the Montgomery County Food Bank, TRELS Home for Children, and Bikers Against Child Abuse International.

According to the Association of Pickleball Players (APP), the sport of pickleball has had a three-year annual growth rate of 158%.  A 2021 report by the SFIA Single Sport Participation Report on Pickleball stated players over the age of 50 make up 20% of overall participation, the largest age bracket.
