In it, he writes, “hello Mother — just fine. We are in old Mexico. drunk as hell. Will see you in about 3 weeks. Clyde + Grace.” Barrow met Bonnie Parker a few months later, and would be dead within five years after a multi-state crime spree that captured the public imagination.Â
“This postcard provides a fascinating glimpse into Barrow’s life just months before he met Bonnie Parker and embarked on a notorious crime spree that captured the public’s imagination,” according to a release from the auction company. “The postcard, measuring 3.25″ x 5.5,” includes a Mexican stamp in the upper right corner and is framed with photographs of Clyde and Bonnie.”
The image is framed with three photos of the duo on a burgundy mat background.Â
One of Montgomery County’s claims to fame is the famous pair would pass through Conroe where Barrow would visit his relatives who lived in the city.Â
Lore is that the gang would hang out near an iron bridge over the San Jacinto River just west of the city. They chose to stay out of town as not to cause trouble for the Barrow relatives who were of good standing in town.Â

Earlier this year, the bridge washed into the river in a flood. Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation to have the bridge moved to county property where it is being restored.Â
The bridge’s final destination will be an almost 400-acre park in the Woodforest community where the bridge will serve as a memorial to the nine lawmen the couple killed during a string of robberies.
