What started as a little girl’s dream in 2015, has now turned into a major effort to support Conroe ISD students in need.

In 2015, as an elementary student at Birnham Woods Elementary, Baily Cowart asked her mother a simple question about why the family received notices to collect school supplies and her church had back-to-school drives. Her mother said sometimes people in the community are less fortunate and school supplies are gathered to help them.

She was so moved by her mother’s response that instead of asking for birthday cards that year, the young girl asked for school supplies from her family and friends to bring to school.

That first-year donation to Birnham Woods Elementary that could fit in a wagon has now snowballed into Baily’s nonprofit B.E. Blessed headed up by the York Junior High student and her family.

On Saturday, nearly 100 volunteers for the nonprofit packed 1,000 sets of supplies and 1,500 hygiene kits for distribution to 13 Conroe ISD campuses as school begins on Wednesday.

“This is our biggest year yet,” said her mom, Stephanie Cowart.
